I just grabbed 2 small ones-probably 7"-8" diameter. I have plenty of big stuff 24"+. The tree was pretty healthy, very green and wet so I'll probably noodle those first. It was taken down Friday. When I get into the bigger stuff I'll update this thread and possibly do a new thread on the whole tree. I'm also interested to see how quickly it dries.

I’ve had sycamore split pretty easily and then I’ve had some that is indeed just as bad if not worse than gum. Seems to be the ones with the bumps on them split badly and without is t too bad.

I'm hoping the rest of the tree turns out as easy!

One of my tree guys stopped at lunch time. Small load of limb wood and a pretty good quantity of chips.[IMG][IMG]

I had a couple pieces maybe 6" diameter a few years back when i hand split. I cursed the stuff like no tomorrow. I had a score of it close to home with some decent limb wood, but didnt touch it. Here's that thread
It may be close by, but im NOT taking it!

I wanted to clean up some shorts lying around in the wood yard and then grabbed a few rounds to add a bit more. What I think is hornbeam on the bottom with sycamore on top. Once again, no problems even with 16" rounds.[IMG]

I put a new sign up at the roadside stand today. I opted not to put it in the ground because 1. I didn't want this one to walk away and 2. the county says freestanding signs can't exceed 2 square feet (which is pretty stinking small) and this does. I'm considering what I want the permanent sign to look like and I'll add that later.[IMG]

I've received quite a bit of limb wood in the last 2 weeks so I decided to get some of it bucked up since I took the day off. I made a temporary bucking platform with pallets and it worked quite well.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

That looks like it worked good. Onna let those rounds dry some in the totes and split later?

It definitely made the work easier. I'll repeat today and get the rest of it finished.

I often do that but my mixed wood inventory is getting low. I'll split today and get it drying in this warm weather ASAP. My goal is to fill 3 totes this weekend.

Cut the rest of the limb wood this morning. Then set up the canopy for splitting. Finished off the tote and moved it to the drying yard.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Made use of the long weekend to finish moving my firewood stand to it's new location 43' from the road. Roof complete and all signs are installed. Sales were decent as well. [IMG]

Wrestled this big chunk of oak onto the splitter. Bone dry but still weighed a ton. I envy the guys with log lifts.[IMG]

Got another tote of mixed hardwood this morning before the heat drove me back inside. This one is destined for a new solar kiln. We'll see how it turns out.[IMG]

I found a black IBC tote cover with zipper on Amazon. I've used it once and it really boosts the temperature inside. I decided to take advantage of these last few hot days in September to get a jump start on drying. I'll pull the cover off in a few weeks and let it air dry (top covered) until it's ready to burn.
