    They can come in handy in bucking as well; allow one to finish the cut by wedging the top; I have used that a couple of times.

    Just did that recently. Got my bar firmly pinched out in the field with no backup saw.:doh: Was just about to leave the bar and chain behind to drive home and get another saw when I realized I had a wedge and hatchet. Just enough to get free.

    A Wedge is a tad easier,
    & fits in my shirt pocket
