It's alive. Need to sort out the fuel screws a little but it's ready to eat weeds again. It's slathered with silicone spray in pic...plastics were all dried out from age and degreaser I used. Carb diaphragms, air filter, plug, lines & filter, used head off another trimmer of mine and the new to me engine shroud. Will grease the head before use.
Hauled another load of concrete Friday evening to be put on the river bank next year. We've got some lot resurfacing going on at work so I'm taking advantage of the smaller pieces. Rolled and gathered the maple rounds Saturday before heading up to Ft Kickass to get a rafter template figured out. Had an extra set of hands yesterday and got half of them thrown up. Overhang will be trimmed back a bit.
Gracias. It's moving slow. No real hurry other than it's getting colder outside to work in. These projects of mine are never meant to become 'chores'. We had a fun few hours building stuff in the woods. So enjoyable when you give yourself some 'wiggle room' from perfection. Just doing whatever works with whatever I can lay my hands to cheaply. It's not absolutely square or true, but then again....neither is the discount lumber I've been using. I predict many good times ahead up there. Anxious (except monetarily) to get after the A-frame structure that will be the 'cabin'. Hoping it's underway sometime next summer. Timetables are dependent on what I can score from the reject rack at Lowes. Have not seen anything worth buying for two weeks now. Should pick back up again towards spring.
Hauled another load of free material last night. Then felt froggy and went down on the bank to better place some wayward 'stones'. I gotta come up with a plan for placing this pile.
Got another load of 'stones' last night. Couple of these were all I wanted. The source pile has been mostly gleaned of 'man sized' pieces. Pic of the stones I re-placed the other night. Just fished them from the water line and tossed them further up the bank. Water level is about as low as it ever gets anymore right now. This is why I have so many that are wayward. Rolling/tossing them mostly ends up with them further down bank than wanted, or out in the water where they are not dong any good. They are put on the bank mostly to mitigate lapping of boat wakes and the erosion caused by. The high water levels are interesting. Sometimes they take material, sometimes they leave material. The Stones will 'collect' the silt during high water, which is a good thing.
Officially under roof, albeit partially. Took advantage of nice weather Saturday and Sunday. Did cut a little wood as well, but neglected to take any pics. Gotta get a cap and figure how long I want the overhangs to be. (working with short pieces of repurposed steel, still have 8 short pieces left to weave in) Will use cutoffs from rafters to brace up the corners.
Gonna be a nice little shelter when done. Kind of a PITA working with repurposed material sometimes but hey you cant beat the price.
It becomes more apparent towards the end of construction. lol We had to eyeball our line for the roof. Most everything I have in this may as well be considered 'repurposed' other than the screws. It's all reject lumber. Was rough calculating yesterday and I think will have about $325 in materials total. This includes a pretty decent pile of other lumber as of yet unused. The steel has some extra holes in it. Might try some good foil tape on those. Other considerations have been silicone and or epoxy. Should be a picnic table appearing under it sometime here soon.
If clean a dab of clear silicone should work best, just be sure the metal is clean. Clear sticks the best. My shed build cost me no more than $20 using all repurposed/reclaimed lumber. I was going to do a tally if i had to buy all the material used new.
This was discussed. "What would it cost to have a contractor put this up?" That's if I could find one that wants to deal with a small mountain with ATV trails for access to site. lol
Forgot to update some small wood progress from last week and the weekend. Prepped some rounds at the yard. Left a grubby feast for the birds. Worked on the stuff way back in the back. Still have a goldielocks white oak yet to process there. Red is all split save a few small rounds that need halved.
Oh and I realized that I have lost my carb adjustment tools somewhere. (keep them all in one case) Bleh.
