Did some cutting today. The first stop was the tree I had previously prepped a few posts back. Started out getting some nice rounds. Then some exploratory cutting into the main trunk. I'll get these later. Pull them over to a better place to process with the tractor. This is why I was exploring. Lots of rot and ant holes in this one. This is the top. More rounds Few bigger rounds. Next stop was a sugar maple uproot located on a steep hill near my lower yard area. Plan was to cut to rounds and roll down the hill to be collected in a trailer at a later time. Theory is sound. One got away from me. That was it for today. Gonna ease back into things.
Too warm in the sun for a sweatshirt. This cut sleeve worked brilliantly. Able to cradle the gnarlys with wreckless abandon.
Sigh. What's wrong with me? Why am I now lusting for a 372xp? damm CAD. Thought I had it licked. I have *plenty of saws these days. But the want for one of these legends persists.
I get it. I have a well ported 365 special but would love to have a nice 371. I have so many other hobbies, more saws is not my priority.
Yup. I got the red headed step child that can easily be converted. Pretty sure I'm just gonna leave it alone. I have a line out for a 2171 that a former coworker owns and doesn't really use anymore. I have not pestered him because I don't want to remind him that he's gotten too old to use it. I have 'first right of refusal' on it. lol It would satisfy my desire, I think. Someone has a Redmax GZ7100 brand new on ebay that's awful shiny. Thankfully it's priced pretty high. Whther orange or red doesn't really matter to me much. I just need one of these chasis that hasn't been hobbled.
Got a part in for the weedeater refit. Was going to allow the 'patina' but found this for a very reasonable price. It's a better cover as it has the nice brass screw retainers built in that was cheapened/deleted from later versions.
The seal is broken for this season on the splitter. A modest start. Crap weather with misty rain. Underway once again.
Doing some stuff today. Not chasing power. Letting the heat out. Done cold with a vice, a screwgie, small ballpein and some dykes. I'll get the spacer cutoff this afternoon. Saw currently has a 6401 muffler on it which only has a birdcage and not a crackpipe. I pulled this muffler off the saw before it ever had gas in it. Will now see what is involved in removing the birdcage from the 6401 muffler. Have more 7900s that will need help.
Didn't go completly smooth. There is a spacer flange that is needed to be kept. Have seen others pull the crack pipe out of it. This one was fully welded to the flange. I had to do some slight cutting and grinding but it is done.
Missed this before. Thanks very much. Weather was nuts today in South Central WI. Snow, then sun, then snow, then sun, then sleet, etc. Today’s a good day to stay inside and help The Wife with stuff. Our new wood burning insert gets installed tomorrow. We have a little bit of wood set aside to break it in, and enough to last us a week or so. Have to buy/borrow the rest for this year, and will have to keep on CSS’ing once I’m back to 100%.
Just revisiting this. I think the problem is gone. I have not had a flooded saw since changing the needle spring. It will still fire with no choke, but you can use the choke and get a burp now.
Welp, last shot at after work shenanigans before the time change so I have a change of clothes with me today. Dunno what I'm gonna do exactly, but I'm gonna get into something for an hour or two.
No wood work yesterday...well except the rotten red oak that fell across a trail that I needed to use. Had hoped to get started on rafters but the tree cleanup delay ate up some time. Ridge boards got put up yesterday before I had to leave.
