Yeah usually for the folks that live in town they come in in January or so with a front end loader and dump truck and take the snow banks and piles and dump the snow outside of town. They get so built up that there would still be piles of snow in July if they didn't spread it out

You should think about getting thermometer for your pipe at least and could get one for your stove top also, to be sure you are burning clean and keeping your pipe hot enough to avoid creosote forming. this brand , Condar, I have found to be more accurate than others http://www.condar.com/Stovepipe_Thermometers.html
Thanks and yeah I wish that the 2ish cords there meant I was ready for winter, but I will probably start burning the middle of sept. And I might still have a fire in the morning in May. If I could double what I have in hardwood I would feel better haha
We're in Northern Lower Mi, Keweenaw, and we start burning a little the middle of Sept., and don't stop until mid-May. Sometimes later. I would expect you to burn at least that long up there in Yooperville. Us trolls know these things.
Welcome to the forum Keeweenau. I love the area where you live and all around there. Did plenty of work around there and went right through Tapiola with every trip we made there. We miss it! There are dozens on this forum who can answer them. Most things have been covered already so I'll just stop here except to say, in your area, the wood cutting and gathering has to happen before winter and winter sets in a bit early most years. So it is good you have a head start on things. Oh, also on the temperature gauge, I would not stop with one on the flue but would also have one on the stove top. As you learn the stove, these will help and speed up the learning. It will also allow you to burn in such a way as to minimize creosote buildup and also to get the best burn for the wood you have.
Thank you, and yes we love living here, it was my dream to get a place out in the country up in da U.P. ever since I was a teenager. Starting out the first year burning wood without time to properly season it has been challenging, but I'm really excited to get to know my stove and how to make the most of what I burn.
Great advice HDRock! I've used one for the last 25 years. I wouldn't heat with a wood stove without one.
Welcome, Keweenaw good luck! Yeah I do not fell trees once snows over a foot deep as I don't want to have to move fast in deep snow. As for wood burning advice just keep asking questions because this crew are a bunch of great educators at heart! and will help with anything and you only have to pay them with pics!
