Welcome to the forum Handsonautotech Love that front yard! And it looks like you have a beautiful family and home. You'll fit in nicely here. Only one comment on the tree felling. If you look at the stump you can certainly tell it is a good thing this was not a large tree. You might want to do a little more studying on felling trees before you do too much more. But then, we never stop learning. Good luck on the house too; looks like a lot of work.
Handsonautotech just re watched your cutting video.. maybe I didn't see it. but what about PPE? (Personal Protection Equipment) I am not one to harp on others BUT you have 2 beautiful little girls and wife ... as a fireman you wear PPE ... so running a saw should require chaps and helmet at a minimum. not trying to be safety police just putting it out there.. for your consideration..
Welcome to da club, Handsonautotech! Great Intro , you will fit right in here Here is a link to check out Felling ? Which notch to use? And a video for ya, Stay safe out there
Welcome to the site. It looks like you have plenty of elk moving though your area. What would be the impact of "harvesting" that subordinate male for your freezer?
Before I say welcome, I'll say this, "WOW!" Pics! Great Backstory! Vids! Wife splittin wood! Adorable kids! Military Vet! Firefighting! Yep- as posted above- superb entrance! So, another warm Welcome Handsonautotech Glad you're here! FHC is the place to be!
Since I made that video I have purchased Sthil Chaps and I use my fire helmet while cutting. Ill have to get the wife to take a pic of me in my safety gear now. At the time I had to get the tree down in order to get insurance on the house so I did not get a lot of research time in. I have learned a lot since. I am curious as to what you see in that stump Backwoods Savage. I had a face cut in the front and had wedges hammered into my plunge cuts before the final back cut was performed, but I am sure my texhnique could have been much better. I think the tree was about 50ft tall.
I have not watched the whole thing yet but this looks about what I did. This is one of the video's we watched for research before we dropped the tree. If you can hear in my voice after I felled that tree I was still shaking. It was one of the most intense moments of my life. Had I screwed up I would have had a nice mortgaged pile of rubble.
It didn't look like you did a face cut on that tree but I was wrong you did. That's a good video though and the guy is a good teacher
Welcome to the Hood - great pictures and videos. As long as the tree didn't fall on the house (and missed the sat dish) you felled it right
Any tree felling that doesn't end in injury or damage is a good one. Kind of like any plane landing you can walk away from is a good one. Welcome to FHC Handsonautotech You'll love it here. Pics and names of the hounds please! We love dogs around here.
Great to hear I never wore them til 20 years ago we were clearing a trail.. an old timer thru me a pair and said you don't cut with me unless your wearing them other job was hauling brush.. wife now says you ain't sleeping with me unless your wearing them.. that works too I don't know what backwoods saw but if you put an @ before his name he will get an alert it will also bold it Backwoods Savage
let it to my good friend Eric my wife just tries to protect me from myself ...correctly stated... if I don't use Chaps while cutting with a chainsaw.. I am delegated to da couch
