Nicely done pjcalla. Start lifting big rounds as often as possible..... You'll be able to install the stove yourself too!
And remember to split horizontal if using hydraulics...upper body workout is more than most realize with proper bending,, but a hookaroon is a must, it exercises the lats...looks like some Log-Rite implement handle in the one pic? Really nice work my friend-seems like you've been here all along
3 months into the new addiction. I've been trying to get at least one load per week, and I think I'm averaging just under that. I think I have about 3.5 cord split and stacked. Have about another cord still in rounds. Went and looked at inserts yesterday, time to do some research. I'll start a separate thread in the appropriate forum in the next week or so. I'm still hovering around 210 #, but feel much stronger, and can work longer. The last two times bucking, I feel that I need a bigger saw. Right now I have a ms290, that I bought a few years ago off Craigslist, when I didn't know better. It was mint, probably used less than 2 tanks of fuel, for $175. I have done the muffler mod, but I feel it's still lacking. I have been hand sharpening, so that probably has something to do with it. I should pick up a new chain to compare. That's it for now, just an update for those that care. Oh yea, and pics: Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
I see some walnut in there. You ever get ahold of a walnut trunk, let me know. I will cut you out some boards. Lookin like quite the stash!!
What diameter are you looking for? EDIT: I meant to say, what is the minimum dbh that makes it worth the effort? I'm obviously a noob, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Minty 290 for $175. I think I would give you that right now and you need not lose a penny on it when you replace it. I really don't need it but at that price for a nice newish Stihl 55cc, I am in.
Hey welcome! I was welcomed not too long ago and found this site on a whim. Definitely found my outlet here for wood and once you start getting stacks out, you're gonna get peeped and rubbernecked. I love splitting by hand here, there's not much thinking to it. but with the amount of wood some people get on here, you'd wonder about the splitters and saws too. They help fuel the addiction, we're a bunch of ENABLERS! Honestly Folks have been real helpful and sometimes it gets a little overwhelming but take it one step at a time and absorb. Plenty of advice and satisfying stacking and loading pictures. Some are really a thing of beauty enjoy your time here!
Awesome pictures! Great job with your hoarding so far... Getting any reaction from the neighbors' yet....??
Lots of truth here. You won't lose any $ if you choose to sell that. Go pro saw on your next one. I've got a 361 and 066 you can try before you start looking to buy. A 70ish cc saw is also a great option. Go to MI next month It is time to begin making plans for the GTG! and you can try everything under the sun and meet some cool people as well.
I'm not going to sell it, just need to add more to my stable. Mainly ash, but have some hard maple, oak, hack berry, walnut, and cherry. About the only thing I don't mess with is pine. Don't get me wrong, I would burn pine, but there's so much hardwood people want gone around here. Haha, nope. There's no HOA where I live, and the neighbors are all pretty nice. I live on a dead end street with about 12 houses. There was a new "yuppie" neighborhood built directly behind ours, and we get people walking down our street. A few weeks ago, I was out splitting, and a woman from the other neighborhood walked by. After exchanging pleasantries, she asked if I sold wood because her husband likes to have bonfires. I told her I would sell her some for her fire pit, but haven't heard back. I'm thinking I could make some beer money selling my "not so prime" splits to the new neighbors. Thinking "bonfire in a bag" or something like that. Something foolproof, "put this bag in your pit, tee pee these longer logs over the bag, light wick" type deal. Who knows? I appreciate the offer. I'm definitely going pro saw next time. I would love to make it to the GTG, but can't commit at this time.
Take a pickup load to where this lady may be and ask her what she may like or rather her husband. Pine is best to just give it away in terms of bonfirewood anyways, the other hardstuff you could mix with and make a better market
