Gents, here is a picture of where the gasket was compressed; as stated in the photo, notice how one section is compressed and gray while the rest of the gasket is white. I surmise that the gray section is where firebox air was leaking out from under the cat sled and going straight up the chimney. While this is purely anecdotal and many more burns are needed to prove it, the stove did a 14-hour run on 2 year old red oak and still had large, un-burnt sections of wood when I checked it for a reload. It had been struggling to hit that duration. Let's see how things pan out....

Thank you for the insight. I hope my sled gasket lasts a good long while!

Maybe mine will get replaced while it's in for the rebuild. One can hope.

Where the tadpole gasket goes around the corners (particularly the front corners), it lays higher - causing the whole sled to sit higher & exhaust leaking past the gasket where there's no contact. This is what fried my gasket which I replaced Sept. 2019. I contacted Woodstock 2 weeks ago, they're sending another gasket for me to try again but no replacement instructions yet. Best I figure, I'll need to smash the gasket flat at the corners somehow after replacement. It's difficult to replace is an understatement.

I’m resurrecting this thread to pass on info from Woodstock about the tadpole gasket. Seems there is now a re-designed bypass rod which holds the front edge of the sled up higher when in the OPEN position. Seems the old/original bypass rod could allow the sled to compress the tadpole gasket in a trouble spot (the sides of the gasket get burnt & crispy) so smoke sneaks over the gasket when the sled is closed. Just installed new bypass rod and it looks like a winner.
