Is your roof flat or do you pitch it at all?

No I sell lumber and also am a contractor. The plastic trim boards we sell come in 20’ lengths and are covered for shipping. We get hundreds of pallets a year I save the covers and pallets for shipping large orders and for home use to stack my firewood.

yes we do cut up many and put them outside the yard for customers to take if they want. Check your local lumber yard most carry the 18’ trim boards ours are 20’ . I am sure if you ask they would let you take some.

What a great idea, I would love to put that on for my brick fireplace. I just might look into one of those.

Can you post a video here of it in action with a fire rolling?

I have a thread on it already.

    Ecofan + Fireplace... WORKS!

But here is the video of it. I have a few more on the instagram account.

I'm actually sweating profusely at the moment it is 77.9 right now and I'm eating at my desk in the adjacent room and I'm HOT.

Just found your thread and checked out the Great Wall of fire webpage, what a great site. Thanks for sharing this.
My current firewood rack for the fireplace is falling apart. I am thinking of leaning in this direction. The only concern I have is we have our flat screen above the fireplace. The family room does get a couple of degrees warmer when the fire place is rolling along even with the window cracked open.
Regarding the fan I am thinking I can mount it to my spark screen and the warm air would blow past the flatscreen tv and be ok. Something for me to look into.

    I’ve been using belting off of a big conveyor. 42” wide. I cover 2 16” stacks. It’s a clean look but heavy. I wouldn’t mess with it if I didn’t have a tractor with forks E86CB95D-D79E-47F0-A2B8-141CDDE71353.jpeg 3DDE4628-0EFD-4665-8F98-81797DE58648.jpeg

I think it'd be better to mount it above the fireplace right into the brick like mine because the thermoelectric generator works on the heat differential between the bottom plate and the top part with the fins......i.e. you don't want the heat blasting the entire unit.

If you mount it on the brick it won't draw any heat towards the flat screen.

    SteveWest,
the roofs on the stacks have a slight pitch one side a few inches taller.

I have many 8 x 2 pieces of corrugated metal roofing. Ive used cinder blocks, patio blocks, wood and even a pallet sometimes. Wife likes the flat square patio blocks the best (3 on each) because there hard to notice and i very rarely have the covers blown off. I also stack in single rows for a what i think is a premium product.

I've tried a number things; tarps, rubber roofing and corrugated steel roofing.

Tarps are cumbersome with heavy snow and ice; seems I'd always have one part that wouldn't sit right. My father inlaw gave me some rubber roofing; nice heavy stuff! Then it got cold. It turned into something like soft metal and was super slick. If I had a stack I was covering for the winter and wasn't touching, the stuff would be great.

I settled on the roof panels a neighbor gave me. They're easy to place on the stacks and with some weight, they stay put. Plus, if you are strategic about taking from the pile, you can keep the top on by leaving some wood here and there.

I have some of those lumber covers...price is right, but IMO they are as big, or bigger PITA than tarps.
Legitimate concern...heat is a real killer of electronics.
Yes...VERY heavy! I have some rubber beltline for covers...thinking of selling it as I have plenty of EPDM now and the beltline is so hard to move, especially by yourself, even if cut into shorter pieces...I have some that are only 24" x 15'-20' long...its all I can do to get them up onto the woodpile...and I'm no small guy!

My current set up is pretty good so far. I have this current flatscreen above the fire place for 6- 7 years now. And no heat issues so far. But I can’t be sure I will have zero issues if I decide to go with a new smart flat screen and I add a fire back and/or a fan.
