Agreed, that's great! artc, how many tons can you carry in a single load and what is your delivery radius? Just curious.
I'm taking delivery soon on this unit to help out with deliveries. It will carry 3 tons and the electric pallet jack. add a ton on the truck if need be, but we would have to transfer it by hand to the ground. while i'm waiting i borrowed a friends unit but it will only carry two tons. still feeling out a delivery radius, but i'm getting calls from as far as Danbury.
The HD in Concord, NH now has FSU's in for $5.18/bag ($259/ton). That is what they sold for last year. These have bags dated 06/16, so presumably they are recently manufactured and not last year's leavings.
. I think you'll outgrow this baby pretty quickly, but looks like a good scheme to get your feet wet in the pellet delivery biz!
The down side, if I can visualize this right, is that you will have to be delivering to either very smooth, level paved driveways, or backing part way into a garage... To be able to use your pallet jack... Most customers may not fall into that category... I prefer a rig similar to the picture here... for small loads. These things are slick! so much quicker than anything else, for a two pallet load, and you pull it with a pickup. As Lousy says, IF you decide to keep with it, if you are going to do a lot of it... you will need bigger equipment.. no doubt. And in my opinion ONLY, you will never make it doing anything by hand... Dan
when we first got into pellets, we did deliver everything by hand.....couldn't do many tons in a day, that's for sure! Carry a few ton into someone's basement a few times a day, you get tired fast.... Theres a couple trans of thought in the delivery business.....some guys deliver with a box van and liftgate and pallet jack...works well for them. The problem with this is that the pellets have to be delivered on a smooth surface. Also, you're limited to 2 ton deliveries (with those trailer dealios)....more tonnage is more trips, which is inefficient. Some deliver with a large flatbed and attached trailer (that's what we do)....the downside is generally we cant get into a garage...the lift is too tall....but we can push them in usually where a guy can close the door to keep the pellets out of view of nefarious pellet pigs! The other downside is cost....expensive to do this! The upside is I can put the pellets by the shed, in the back 40, can go by the bulkhead, etc...places pallet jacks cannot go. I can also put 14 tons on the truck....our average delivery is 3-4 tons, but I do sell truckloads as well, give a small break on the pellet cost, and a break on the delivery charge.... So, hey, cheap enough to try, and maybe it'll work for you.....if not, onward and upward!
VERY cool........ In the winter, it's great... truck, forklift and trailer is put away, as mostly one and two ton deliveries any way.. People here tend to just "fill in" with what they think they will need to finish the season.. And baggers that pick up their own.. And as Lousy said... to go big, you need to be big. Just yard stuff can kill a small guy getting started.. Best way to make a small fortune, is to start with a big one!!! Dan
Agreed I like that little trailer. Had to go on YouTube to see how it operates. Never knew such a thing existed.
This is at the Oxford HD. Guess $229 is the price to beat this year, since all the other box stores, including other HD stores around here are at $249 and up. I think this one may be attempting to compete with the local shop down the street. Took a glance down the side of the building where they store all the pellets, it's hundreds of tons of GS as far as the eye can see!
Several times once a year................ You've warn that out over the last year or 2......... Just sayin!
