I offered $300 because that was about all the cash I had on me at the moment. Would have found a way to get the extra $200 had she not accepted it but figured it was worth a shot! My wife is a serial craigslister and her motto is always "Never hurts to ask" when it comes to price. She's gotten us some amazing deals. Guess it's rubbing off onto me

First day here and already won an award! I'll take it :)

Unfortunately, I will have to find some to buy this year. My father in law has a guy that he uses for his stove that I was going to use for this year so I didn't make falling trees and starting my woodpile a priority this year. After reading on this site for the past few days, I am worried that it won't be seasoned and dry enough. Going to buy a moisture meter and find out though!

Buy what you can and burn what ya got. Try to move a little closer to the goal each year.

welcome super deal I would see about leaving it as far out from the fire box as is possible by extending the hearth stone in front . hate to see all that radiant heat from the soap stone get sucked into the fireplace. who ever is doing the flue make sure they put a well sealed block off plate at the bottom of the flue above the stove.

They are cheaper now. Combustor for this stove is only $175. But yeah, i get your point :)

Yup, block off plate is going to be a must have. Have to move it back more in order to get it lined up with the chimney, so there isn't much choice there, which is fine for us. Living room is small enough and this stove already makes it look smaller.

Plus, the chimney is in the center of the house. The brick oon the backside of the stove is exposed in the kids room. Hoping that the stove will warm that brick up a bit and give off some residual heat in that room as well.

    Welcome aboard paintblljnkie

You've definitely earned that "You $uck" award of the year with a deal like that.
    :faint:

    Spectacular deal on that stove.

Everyone else covered the advice section, so, once again, congrats and welcome to FHC.

Are you direct connecting it to the top of the stove and thats why you're putting it in the fire place? I think with the PHs you can change the vent between top venting and rear venting. I'd set that sucker outside of the fireplace and run a rear pipe out to a T connector and up the chimney liner. Of course you'd want to make sure your hearth is safe to set the stove on but iirc the PH's required hearth R value isn't that high compared to some other stoves and inserts. Keep in mind that you're going to have to open the top up in order to access the cat and if the controls are in the same place as my fireview then you'll be reaching behind the stove to control airflow.

Here's a link to my fireview install into an existing fireplace. My set up is similar to yours except my hearth is about a foot high.

First off, welcome aboard paintblljnkie . Second, I'll up the offer to $525.:rofl:
Man o man, what an absolutely beautiful find and great price.
Find/hoard some nice dry firewood and keep warm. If it's not dry, burn it until it is. :dex:

Yes, we are going direct through the top. I know it can be converted to a rear vent, but like I said our living room is already feeling pretty small so we want it set back into the hearth a bit. Plus, I'd like it to warm the brick behind it so as to heat the rooms that have the exposed brick behind the chimney.

The attached photos is the back of the fireplace, into the kids room. I am hoping the exposed brick will help to radiate heat into the other rooms. I am hoping that helps those rooms stay warm.

Here is a link to the whole house and the progress pics of our renovation, in case anyone wants to see it. Pretty proud of it myself - I work in IT and while I grew up helping my dad build an addition on my parents house and a couple of other additions he did for friends, I *Hated* construction when I was younger so I didn't learn as much as I wish I had learned ( I decided working with computers was more my style). Now that I own my home, I have a desire to learn how to fix and do things myself. We did all of the work ourselves besides the electric and plumbing (Which we had entirely redone). Re-doing things myself taught me a lot. Now I wish I could just stay home and work on things around here full time, but alas, remodeling costs money :p

Incredible.. sometimes someone gets a break! Kansas is a long way away from home for a Woodstock Stove. How's your wood supply?

That stove is a heater! We need more pics, is that your installation or where it was when you bought it?

    Welcome to da club

I went looking on Craigslist for an EPA stove , It took me 7 months to find the type of stove I wanted, In the shape , I wanted , For the price I want to pay .
I did get a good deal not but quite as good as yours -wood-stove.jpg , You got a hell of a deal,
    Congratulation man :tip::yes:
If you don't have much wood for this year And you have The budget You can pick up a bunch of eco bricks, You can also add these in with wood that is not Quite dry enough .

paintblljnkie If you can get the beautiful stove up and running this fall, you should be able to have it pay for itself this year. :salute::thumbs::yes:
