hi all. My wife wants something “pretty” for our wood storage. It would need to hold about 6 cord. So I’m looking for ideas to show her. I dont really care for pinterest as its usually more pretty than functional. Thanks in advance.
Simple easy and works. 8 4x4s, 6 2x6s like 30 2x4s some fence boards and metal roofing. Holds 7.5 cords
I don't worry about pretty. I've got about $0 in this set-up No time for a woodshed...need a cover strategy for this season's wood
That's nearly exactly what I'm going for. Except I will go 3 bays at 10 x 8 x 8 which is about 15 cord. What are the dimensions of the one you built?
Have her give you pictures of sheds she thinks are "pretty". Just build whatever she likes and you can afford and leave the front and back open. Adding little flourishes and some paint can go a long way. For instance, Here is a swing bench I built for the wife and kid. Nothing but clunky 2X nailed and screwed, but by taking some time to cut some wiggles it becomes far les clunky and kind of pretty... Or so I've been told. Sorry, Don't have a picture of a woodshed I've built but could put up a picture of the horror show the last people left behind. You could show it to your wife to help her realize just how good she's got it.
Please, Try not to judge me. Just using this until I can put something proper up this summer. My favorite feature is the extended floor that slopes back in to the crib, ensuring that the bottom wood gets soaked and at the same time making it more difficult to reach the stack in the back. I suppose I could cut it off but I'm afraid of killing a chain on whatever might still be in those boards. It all seems to be salvaged materials. Got to at least give them props for that. And no worries, I make sure that plate swings free when I'm using it.
If you didn’t want to build anything, you could just stack it like this: But seriously though, I am of the opinion that stacks of wood can look pretty nice all by themselves when stacked neatly. One of the keys to that is simply measuring and cutting your wood to consistent length.
We don't use anything pretty for wood storage, but not everyone will do it this way. Sheds are nice too. I'm in full agreement with Shawn Curry in that wood stacks alone can look nice if stacked neatly. I had just finished the stacking on these but not put the final touches on them. I usually let them dry like this the first summer then sort of level them better (with just a bit of slant to let water run off) then top cover them.
My bays are 8 wide 7 deep not including the 18" overhang and 6ish feet tall so about 8 cords but I leave a decent gap at the top for airflow since I built it into my fence so really only had to buy 3 4x4s haha. Save money when you can
I'll season it in there. Most of the stuff going in there atm had been split in half and sitting in the driveway exposed to the wind and sun for 3-4 months. But that's only because I didn't have anywhere else to put it so now that this is built i will just c/s/s and go directly to here for seasoning. I'll just add more bays when I run put of room. Im trying to do the whole 3 years ahead deal so it can sit in there and season real good.
