I would seriously consider removing the exhaust blower and checking it out first. Could be crudded-up, or just getting lazy. Would be a good time to have a look around w/ a small flashlight in the exhaust path near the blower. Then hook the blower to straight 120v AC (all properly insulated, of course) with a test power lead, and see if it seems to spin up to high speed.

Big metal spoon isn't going to cut it. A hard rubber mallet, or in my case, I always used a small ball pein or regular metal hammer. 15-20 good sharp raps all over the back of the firebox should get most of the caked-on crud dislodged.

Looking at the burnpot it looks like they have a few holes above the fire that might be able to get sealed to help flow.

You could fill most of the holes circled in yellow with stove cement and open all the holes circled in red by at least one drill size.

I agree that filling those holes may help flow up through the pellets, but the fact that he said it ran fine the first season he had it, leads me right back to the "dirty stove syndrome" or a weak comb. blower.

I'd start by plugging all the holes in the side that Jay circled.

Some stoves are known for lack of air and bad burn issues. Baby Countryside, several of the US Stoves, this NS 45, etc.

I'd still look at the gaskets and such, to make sure you don't have any large burn pot bypasses. As well as getting the larger impeller.

savemoney had to burn a certain pellet and stay on a strict regimen to keep his old 45 running right.

Thanks Jay, the holes shown in yellow get "buried" along with all other holes underneath the surface when you place the pot in there, It looks like air comes in from there but just at a different angle (not directly from underneath) so the flame it "pushed" back a bit away from the glass?

I just noticed the stove was shutting down and #4 light was flashing.....hit the on/off button once to turn off and then again to turn on and it is back up and running again...

Are you sure it was the 4th light? Looks like there is only one cause for the 4th and its the high limit switch as in stove over heated.

Have you done the dollar bull yest on the ash pan and door gasket? I'd check every inch around both of those doors.

    That flame is really lazy.

If you want immediate results, plugging some holes will help. But there is a problem elsewhere if they build up that fast.

Can you record a video and post it of the stove running on level 3 or 4?

Don't remember if this was asked earlier in this thread, but is the stove using an OAK for combustion air? If so, have you checked it for blockages? (leaves, wasp nests, mice nests, etc???) Disconnecting it at the back of the stove may confirm this is or is not an issue.

If it were me, I might just keep disconnecting and drag it to the curb. Stick a $1000 price tag on it to be sure someone steals it.

Sorry Geek, I would "NOT" have the patience as you and would have washed my hands of this last season. I saw a quad on CL, But unfortunately its an insert!!

Edit: Here's one in Torrington.... Pellet Stove

I sent myself to time out already!! :emb:

LOL....yeah, I've been too patient and maybe because I am a tech support guy...lol

An OAK is in place but really didn't think about a blockage, it's like a 3 feet long.

Dexter, the door gasket was replaced to no avail as well as the hinges. The dollar bill test was ok.
I haven't changed the ash pan gasket as it seems very good.

Last season I removed ash pan and caulked the seams around it per Napoleon's recommendations.

The plan is to call Napoleon and maybe I'm lucky and get a replacement combustion motor plus haul stove to the yard in the week and blow air throughout the unit with motor taken out.
If they don't replace it then order the motor used in Harman ($100) and pray....

    1. Cleaned burn pot.
    2. Covered those holes on the side that Jay marked in yellow.
    3. Disconnected OAK hose in the back of stove..taking air from inside the room.

Trying to upload a short video after unit started, nice flame and air flow.
    Running on low heat #1.
Will post a short video on heat #3.
iPhone is compressing but upload sub-page gets stuck, I think the file is .mov

Too early to tell because it burns nice at the beginning, but it is burning fine so far, the flame seems to be getting inclined a bit to the glass and I assume this is because the holes in front of the burn pot are covered.
