It rained here last Sunday and while running an errand i spotted some locust chunks obviously cut back from the recent storm. Stopped and checked them out on the way back...maybe half a PU full. Coincidentally i scored some BL in the same spot back in February. Funny Coincidence & Mission: ACCOMPLISHED! were the threads. Its a real dangerous and busy intersection so last time early Sunday was perfect. Had room to pull off road and took my time bucking and loading. Just over half a PU full. I had scouted an access road just up the street the same day and found more locust. Had to move some wood around to get more on. Still most of the top still there. Found another BL blown over farther down that road. Future scrounge. After 2.5 hours of hot and humid (luckily it was shaded) i had enough. Split a couple and started second stack in front of last Sundays locust. Splitting it today. Having a bite to eat. Left without breakfast!
We were on the same warpath today. Hunting the elusive Black Locust Hahahaha. Yeah hot out. Way too hot for me. Never shut the truck off. Load a little, chill a little. Great score Brad and good work you crazy wood devil.
Room for BL but not for elm?? I see lots of room there to stack wood. The green area must be a neighbor.
The stack is temporary. I take rounds off PU and split as i do or ill unload rounds and having them right outside the door ill split them a lot quicker than of at my friends or in my other PA. IME when the ends check too much they are more difficult to split on some species, Really dont want the elm. Still lots of storm wood to work on. Had this not been BL i wouldve slept in Green area is the pretty yard. My wood stacks not visible from the front door and slider. If i stacked wood there Ms. buZZsaw would me. Landlord would grumble.

Its not a bug...hoarding disorder known as locust mania ! Seems to be making its way through Connecticut now. No known cure, no need to wear a mask, just go with it and hoard copious amounts of black locust!

No time or patience today to do anything like that. I made this instead. 10' at the base, 9.5' tall. I backed the PU and stood on the tailboard to get the last foot or so. There's another stack behind it. A couple chunks to be noodled, some uglies (bottom far left) and a bunch of shorts/cookies not pictured. Just over half cord for todays load. If its standing in the morning id be surprised. It was the leaning tower of locust. Brought the sign out to see the locust.
Well that’s a sweet stack. Some lights and you’ve saved yourself getting a Christmas tree this year. Awesome work.
As i was cleaning up the spruce i felled Thursday, i was trimming limbs and bucking the trunk loading the truck as i went. I pulled the top 8-10' to the truck intact and thought itd be a great tree.
Hahaha I tried that my first year. Looked at a fifty foot pine and thought, gee that top looks like it would make a great Christmas tree. Wrong. By the time I finally got it whittled down to fit through the double doors it was 12 feet wide and eight feet tall. Never again
I might have found something of interest...it's probably mimosa...... That's the biggest one, one smaller, both standing dead. Saw another live one and quite a few saplings. Just got to find out the owner and get permission. buZZsaw BRAD will soon be on his way to GA...
