What gives with these "2.5 gal" Stihl Silver HP ULTRA Bottles, 6.4 oz?

I bought some Stihl HP Ultra for the first time today. I got a 6/pk of their "2.5 gal" bottles which are supposed to have 6.4 oz. in them. However, according to the scale on the side of the bottle, there is more than 6.4 oz. in there, they are more like "6.9-7".

So which is it, is the bottle scale right, or is there 6.4 oz. there? I'm making up 1 gallon so I needed to measure out approximately 2.6 oz.

I would measure out 2.6 oz.
I switched to Lucas semi-synthetic, and they call for 3 ounces for a 40:1 ratio. Cant figure out the math on that one, but I went with it (I am wondering if some of the content is stabilizer or something that isn't considered oil, maybe same for Stihl).
I have 4.5 oz marked on a small bottle, and fill it to the mark for 1.5 gal at a time.

For any of you guys using Stihl oil... I was using Ultra for quite a while. It was a JASO FB rated oil. Lucas is a heck of a lot cheaper, and a JASO FD- which is superior in lubrication and detergency. Im really liking it so far, especially for a THIRD of the price.

I looked at those bottles a little closer and see that all 6 of them are "contracted" to the extent that the volume reads high making the graduations inaccurate. I still had one of those early 2.6 oz (3) little orange guys graduated with the view panel. They don't make view panels on the small 1 gal ones any more. I'll just keep using that to measure 2.6-3 oz "synthetic" like I've been doing for oil the last 20 years. KISS principle here.

the 2.5 gallon stihl premix is the best, just add 2 gallons of gas and you got 40:1 and no math was required, if you start trying to split those small bottles you are just asking for trouble IMOP.

Would bet there is 6.4 in each
6.9 or 6.7 would be a good thing added to 2.5 gallons of gasoline.

EPA keeps pushing for less & less oil in 2 cycles, not for the good of the equipment.
EPA pushed for 40:1 to 50:1 to reduce pollution, not have the saw run better :)

I don't notice any less performance when I mix .9 gallon of gasoline with the 1 gallon 2.6 oz bottles. (& I rinse the bottles to get it all)

    IMO
If 40:1 don't smoke in your saw, it's a good mix, even if it calls for 50:1 :)

    My learning was:
Always better to have a little to much oil in the fuel than to little
    :zip:

By the way. if you are going to measure,
you can save lots of $$ by buying a quart/gallon of 2 cycle oil.
I figured out the cost of a gallon of oil buying the 2.6 oz bottles. Scary !
I bought a quart of Amsoil for around $10, saved lots.
    I measure/mix 2.8 oz per gallon.

I like Stihl, I really do, but I run top shelf synthetic oil (AMSOIL Dominator @ 40:1) for a fraction of the cost of Ultra HP.

Nothing wrong with Ultra other than the price, and the vast majority of folks using it don't use enough for the cost to actually matter. For many, a six-pack of 2.6 oz bottles is a multi-year supply.

Was the Lucas oil dyed. A couple years ago I bought a gallon from the parts store. I had no problems with it other than it was clear/yellow in color and I couldnt tell which gas I mixed.:(

Ultra works but is too high to use in mass quantity. I prefer maxima or motul for mixing. I mix 4 oz to a gallon.

No kidding. A ported 088 or 390xp will suck it down also. 4 milling cuts and I used 5 tanks in the 390xp which was a little over a gallon in maybe 2 hours and that's with setup time. Last time I checked a 6 pack of the 2.6 oz ultra was something like $12-14.

I buy by the quarts for ease of handling over gallon size. Also 10 qts to the case got me free shipping. Last time came out to $11 a qt 32oz.

I just use a measuring cup 4oz x 5gal = 20oz. Then break it down to 1gal and 2gal cans I have for carry alongs.

I do like the smell of klotz. I had one quart left in a 40 fuel can I used for the weed eater yesterday.

Ya, it is blue. Comes out as a pretty dark mix, even at 40:1

That's one of the best things about it. I can run a few minutes up the road and grab it, rather than driving 20 minutes to the dealer (or 5 minutes to the dealer in town, which I do not like frequenting). I know Klotz makes good stuff, but I don't really care for the way it smells. I smelled too much Klotz at the race track when I raced, I preferred the Cam2 smell myself lol.
