Took the splitter to my bothers house this afternoon. It's only about 1 1/2 miles and I drove slowly so just towed the splitter behind my car instead of loading it into my trailer. Spilt the red oak we took down this past fall, storm damaged tree that was leaning against a large pine and his house. The Pine saved his house. Also split the Ash he hauled home from helping me cut down trees at son #2's and daughter in-laws house to clear room for a second garage. My brother loaded the splitter and stacked while I worked the lever.
Dropped a tall dead-standing short-leaf pine today. Little 251 was probably begging for mercy by the end of the day. Ran out of daylight so I'll split it next weekend.
Helped the neighbor remove a siberian elm today. It was a hazard and he has kids, so I took the tree down for him. Add it to the hoard.
iCloud Photo Sharing Last weekend the wife and I went to our family property "up north". We did ATV trail maintenance and I cut another shooting lane for my deer stand. Of course anything large enough for firewood went into the dump box on the Gator and got stacked behind the pole barn. For 40 years it has driven me nuts when Dad and I do the same type of work, leave behind firewood, cut to stove length, with Dad saying he will come back to get it later and then never doing so. I guess that is on me, click the link for photos and videos then click the arrow on the left side of your screen to see photos in the correct order. The photo showing the road and no snow is photo #1
Watch those really dead widowmakers, cut one yesterday that I wanted to go in an opening but knew it would be tough to get it there. Made an attempt to go where I wanted it but was far to rotten inside to have enough holding wood at the hinge so I let it go the way it wanted into the grove of small pines. This wasn’t a big deal had room that way just wanted in the open for clean up, well after I managed to get it cut and no dead branches or tops came off I thought I was good. Turns out the middle of this 50-60’ section was weak and it broke in half allowing the whole top half to get catapulted up and over back towards the stump after it was on the ground a few seconds. I caught it out of the corner of my eye and stepped out of the way far enough to take a glancing blow from the top half in the shoulder and down the ribs. Very lucky and could have been badly injured or dead if I was standing a foot further to the left. Just a reminder of the dumb crap that can happen even after it’s laying on the ground. The half that came back was probably 20-25’ long and 10-12” diameter.
93 year old neighbor had big shag bark down…cut it all up and got it all home after work gotta love it!!!!
461 had 25” bar buried and 261c had its 18” bar buried..anything the 261 couldn’t cut in one cut, 461 came to bat!!! Had the 461 for years and love it, 261c is brand new and I am really likeing it with 18” bar!!!
Tree guy brought some ready to burn maple And fresh mulberry…no maple isn’t the best but mixed in with harder wood, it’s fine for me, and I didn’t have to go get it, just cut in my own yard, love it….if you haven’t boys call your local tree guys, see what happens!!!
Nice stuff there. How much you think is there? Liking that nice straight mulberry. The few and far between ones here don't like to grow that way.
took down this big hard maple for a family member. Save the trunj for the sawmill. Got a decent score of limbeood. Sometimes the trees bite you back, I'm lucky it didn't break my hand
To be honest I don’t know I have a boiler so I just pile it up I quit staking few years ago lol… May sell some if tree guys over load me…after I hook my dad, old Nieghbor, and a buddy up with some…
