If we're recommending new carry pieces, I'll vote for the S&W M&P. I've shot one quite a bit at work. I really like the way they shoot and I haven't seen nor heard of any issues with them at the range. If I didn't already own Glocks, I would buy an M&P. I haven't handled an M&P shield, but would seriously look at them if wanting something smaller.
@94bullit I would recommend anything else, the coatings on the glocks hold up well, Ive seen alot of beat up glocks and never have seen a rusty one. My edc guns are holding up well. the first is a Smith MP340. I had it in my jacket pocket for a motorcycle crash, still ticking right along. The other is a XD45 4" with tru dot night sights. only wear after 6 years of carry is on the takedown lever and muzzle/sight from holstering.... Carry what works but the lowest quality gun i owned was a 1st gen LCP. That was a pocket gun and rusted to the point it wouldnt function..... If the surface that got parkerized or phosphating is rusting imagine the internals that are usually just blued steel look. And yes my opinion is that Taurus is junk. I have never handled one that had good lockdown and they don't stay in time very well if you shoot them alot. The break in with pmc bronze is BS, ANY factory ammo should be used. Reloads are not good for break in as the power factor could be more or less than intended for the caliber.
The rust doesn't really bother me on the Taurus as long as it doesn't affect function. I just don't think it should be rusting this fast. Both of your guns look the are holding up great. I may get something else to carry all the time or I may start carrying something I already have. I just got the Taurus to carry while I was working because I figured a good gun would get beat up. My idea was wrong. I know also feel that it is not worth saving $200-300 on something that you trust your life with. I figured the PMC break in was BS. If it was loaded hotter it would be +P.
wish they would bring back hand guns here, but when we were aloud had guns. we could only use them in a gun club we were not aloud to bring them home with us,not like you can over there.we can keep our shotguns home, and rifles.
Which is really too bad, because they offer some guns that I'd be interested if the quality was there. I love the idea of a .44sp snubby.
A friend has a short barrel .44sp Smith & Wesson. Sweet, sweet gun, but it's a custom job that cost a lot of money. I tried to talk myself into a Charter but there's just too many bad reviews.
Bodyguard and LCR are the best economy revolvers on the market. A good revolver will cost you money, lots of hand fitting in the internal lock work.
I've got several options for carry guns from .380 to 10mm. A .44sp just seems like a nice thing to have along for wood cutting or fishing trips. If you ever need a defensive handgun, I think there's something to be said for a bad guy seeing that his finger would fit in the barrel of whatever is pointed his way. Realistically, the 9mm I normally have with me (with an extra hi cap in the glove box) is a better defensive tool.
New acquisitions this week. Wifey kinda got talked into the Kimber because of its size and the slide is pretty easy to work. I know better than to try to change her mind, so we have it. She has shot one magazine through my nephew’s 1911, but otherwise has zero experience with the platform. The Kimber certainly is nice, but I have the feeling I might be buying another Glock after some range time.
I love how that little Kimber 1911 felt in my hand when I shot it. I would have one in my safe if I could have bought one in MA, where I lived at the time. I ended up with an S&W 3" 1911 instead.
