On my way to the job this morning. Neighborhood I don't often travel and pass this. HUGE pile of silver Maple. Snapped a quick pic. Left by the road to be picked up later. IMG_5161.JPG Wood score on the brain all day. Hoping it would still be there on the way home. It was. Rang bell, got the okay then called tree company and yes take what I want, BUT it would have to be tomorrow and rain forecasted. Nice straight wood. Need more bundle wood inventory. Not that often I score SM either. IMG_5162.JPG

That's about as nice silver maple as you could ever hope for. The last one I got was gnarly and borderline not worth the aggravation. So... are you going to put on your poncho and hip boots and cut in the rain tomorrow?

Its pretty dang tempting to do that.:singingintherain: Actually don't have rain gear. Hoping for a lull in the rain and I'm on it. Really cant get much easier than this. Its local traffic only so not a busy road.

The wheels have been turning for other plans. Tree service told me they are throwing it away!

If you don't have the room at your place I'd try and find a friend or location where they could move it to. Either way they are going to pick it up and move it....and probably pay a dump fee.

If they're going to throw it away, have them dump it at your place. That's a nice score!

    How far away is jo191145?

That winch and trailer setup of his would load them logs..... I think.

Wow! Nice score! If that was K&J, they have a pretty impressive rig that hauls away the logs. It’s grapple truck with what looks like a giant dumpster on the back.

Don't use a new chain. Silvers get to behemoth size in yards around here. Usually minimum of 3 spars.

Looks like a phone-a-friend scenario. The one that has a dump trailer and a couple saws.:saw:

Maybe Joe would let you stack them at his place. He gets some as the logs get cut.

jo191145 - sorry for volunteering you. Just a thought. :handshake:

Im sure he would but he is an hour from the score and its probably two or more trips for him.
Joe gets truck fulls of BL dropped at his place so I doubt he'd want lowly silver Maple!

He has some tulip poplar for me and I haven't had the chance to get it for many months now. The fact that his field where we cut is muddy doesn't help either.

Good thing he isn't closer other wise I'd fill that field up fast!

Yes it was K&J. It was scheduled for the last PU today unless heavy rain then postponed. Spose I could call and find out. I put the guys name in my contacts! :emb:

You might be a wood hoarder if...

...you have the names and numbers of trees services in your contacts list!:tree:

Braved the light rain with 400 in the truck, get to the score and its all gone. Tree guy said rain may postpone but it would be later day PU. Guess my definition of later day is different than his.
I was in rain day mode which is lazy!
