That did it for me. Had to try making jerky. I have a dehydrator, but I have some concerns about the 160F. If you make it in the oven, you can get 180F for 2.5 hrs. So I ordered SS racks, and the gun, looks like a chalking gun. used it with lean hamburger. so I made the brine, let it sit over night, then added the seasoning. popped it into the oven. Came out fantastic. Offered some to my son. He couldn't believe it was hamburger. Said it tasted like the real thing. I assured him it is the real thing. I used the mixes that came with the injector. I did buy the liquid smoke so now I have everything I need to make it using steak. When it comes to food handling, esp. meats, I am a real germophobe so I am storing my Jerky in the refrigerator. Jerky is a food I can have on my diet. Home made is the best!
I ended up getting a 2lb pack of snack sticks yesterday. $8 seemed like a good deal. They are the cut offs, bits and pieces but taste just the same as the rest of the stick would.
That is a good price, esp. if it something that tastes good to you. Just check the chemicals to make sure you aren't eating poison. I had bought two packs, just under 3 oz. each, that were $3 each. Way too much $$. What I made at home was cheaper and way better. Don't get me wrong, I like convenience also, but I am more concerned about what I am eating and also how I spend my money. To me, homemade food is far better than what I can get eating out.
I've been snacking on my version of sweet and spicy venison jerky the last couple of days. Good stuff, especially when it's home made.
