Just wanted to know if any members are in this area. We'll be there next week and would meet for lunch one day.
Nope but the best place to stay is the Christmas Inn...seriously. Are you going for Rod Run? I don't even know when that is anymore.
We're going to stay in a cabin about 20 minutes east of Pigeon Forge. Will hit the good spots a couple of days, but mainly stay to ourselves in the mountains.
Parking can be an issue. I have no idea why this channel showed up in my fed a few weeks ago, but I've found a few episodes interesting.
Think we have decided to just stay in the cabin in the Smokeys. Came on vacation to get away so that's what we are going to do. When we got here today I noticed very straight and tall black, yellow, and white ash. Mature trees. Lots of oak and Hickory. Wish I bought a saw!
Pigeon Forge is to be avoided... Go in the mountains on the South side of the park. Can walk days there without seeing anybody. God I miss the smokies...
Cabins in the woods are nice. Going the other way, into the woods, is nice. Going into the woods on the south and south east side is better.
We are about 30 minutes se of Pigeon Forge. It's pretty rugged. We are in a very nice country style cabin(no sheetrock). Can't see the other cabins. I always get up before my wife so I took a walk through the woods and I'm amazed at how there's no under growth. Straight, tall, large timber. Not many oaks but plenty of ash, Hickory, and tulip popular, and black cherry. Anyway I'll take some pictures tomorrow. Happy trails!
I've stayed in the area just on the other side of the border. Have not been to Pigeon Forge since I was a small boy. There can be a little engine noise at times but it's very peaceful at night. Their rates have went up pretty substantially since I last visited but I highly recommend this place. Historic Tapoco Lodge | Lodge in Robbinsville, North Carolina You can stay in the main lodge but I prefer the cabins that dot the valley behind it. The only real attraction near it is a couple of large dams. Nearest small town is a 15 minute drive. Heavenly roads all around for a motorcyclist. Some decent hikes that I never did take advantage of also.
Visited a few very nice Vistas in my travels down there. I like the flora there very much as well as the terrain. I don't often make those statements about places other than home. It's a weird dynamic there as it is fairly 'remote', but visitors are purely driven by the tourist appeal of the area. That Lodge exists because it's where the folks who build the dams for the TVA were housed. It had to be the only thing around for many many years. Motorcycle/sports car tourism has sprung a few other accomodations in the area. Beautiful places where humans are relatively low in density rank high on my list of things.
