Mine is a long ways from being like Snowey's and is all PT frame and artificial decking. I went all over it to make sure it wasn't doing to fall down (it was brand new) but builders missed some nails and lags I trust only decks I build and zero inspectors. My other deck is all PT and mostly ground contact rated PT at that you could park a many ton dead load on it and it wouldn't budge.

I recall the one you put in. You did it when it hot and humid and I was afraid you would hurt yourself doing it. Seems you were digging your way to China to set the footing. Your place is fairly new so I wouldn't anticipate rot problems yet.
We replaced some of my decking. Just minor stuff. Think I might use some of that composite decking should I have to replace any major part of it. We enclosed a large part of our deck. Now they are finished sun rooms.

Just deep enough to clear the frost depth. Yes is was hot and humid both when I did the footings and when my son and I put up the rest of the deck. That deck no move. Inspector had no questions but I sure had some for him about the deck he passed on the other side of the house.

Joey and I fished again today. Weather was just awesome. Slight breeze to help keep us cool. Had a great day!!

Trees be startin to turn up on the hill and the lakes weeds are turning brown in the shallows. Kind of put the fish in a funk, But we managed a few decent ones. Doctors appointment tomorrow and back to work on Wednesday.

Watching the Yankees - Mets game and swillin a couple!! :D

    Yup...
    Definitely no fun.

Butttttttttttt, with some fiddling around I am able to get things done without too much issue.

Yesterday we went to the depot and picked up a bunch of lumber to make a temporary replacement over the bad beam.

This will allow me to extract the old beam and insert the new one.

I scrounged up the pix we took back when we built the place, and indeed the guys had installed a huge scaffold all round the place to align and set up the deck framing.

Actually a scaffold would help some, but not really much more than using the extra wood and cribbing things up.

The weather has cooled off a lot over the past couple days, so working is going to be far easier.

Have at it kid, right now I wouldn't trust my ability to stay upright when needed. Left side is still a bit unsteady, no where near as bad as it was but still not 100%. I no longer use a cane but as the day wears on........ you know how it goes.

Hey there Bear, I hear ya 100%

I avoid ladders when at all possible and I make sure I have a good footing.

The stroke took a butt load out of me for sure, and the cancer probably didn't help either.

65 years on this rock also might have something to do with it...ya think

    Gaining on things again.

Removing some of the south side decking by the sat dish to afford access to to the 4 x 10 and its brackets.

    Just about there.

Came in for something cold to drink and a snack.

Gonna go back and finish the temporary decking and then call it a day.

Tomorrow I will see about getting things set to remove the old beam.

This sucker would not have stood a heavy snow without buckling.

Having that section fail would have sucked BIG TIME.

    Do tell... :D

We just turned up our new 1 gig modem service in my market today...I believe they kind of rushed it to get it rolled out today and probably should have waited but that's a decision beyond my pay grade. On the bright side I was getting speed test results on the new docsis 3.1 modem at 900+ meg on each test....was actually pretty impressive. Sorry, chitty pic.

When are you rolling that out to my overloaded head end so Netflix doesn't go bump in the night when the boss goes to use it?

The future is all about streaming high speed data. The video portion of our business, for the most part, will be going away. Everything will probably be running through some kind of service or box like Netflix, Hulu, Roku, etc.

Going to take more than a Gbs link, trust me. I do over 300GB per month over the interwebbie without even trying. Half of all streams need to be resumed.
