Theres a bit of a price war in Augusta where I work. A new station opened up with low prices and a few other stations are offering the same price. I bought some today for $2.24.
I've heard a rumor that there is a glut of gasoline on the market because a new rule/law (shouldn't be equivalent but they seem to be) is going into effect soon that will force ships to burn diesel fuel and not crude oil (or bunker oil). Crude oil can't just all be refined into diesel so that's creating a shortage of diesel fuel and a glut of gasoline. I haven't verified this. It's just a rumor for now.
I can understand banning Bunker C, that stuff is like sludge and has to be kept heated to make it flow. But I would think their would be other grades below diesel that they could burn instead.
Lately it seems that OPEC, Russia and Alberta announced oil production cuts to ease a glut on the market. Guessing it is getting ready to start swinging the other way. OPEC Summit Alberta oil cut Russian Oil Production Down
I'll add to this thread rather than starting a new thread. In New England, I see that home heating oil has moved-up about $0.50/gallon to about $3.50/gal over the past two weeks. A fast increase.
Barrel of oil up 20% last 60 days so expect that to continue until fears of recession over ride the fear of hurricanes
Futures, the month of July: I usually top off my tanks in Aug/Sep . Shoulda/coulda/woulda 30 days ago.
Local independent HHO guy was on the town FB yesterday with the bad news of the price going up and letting people know they need to get it now before it goes up further. Hype or real possibility? IDK, but he is the cheapest out of the 3-4 that are in the general area. Wonder how the credit downgrade will affect it.
Its actually settling down a bit. it was $3.45 last week and its $3.41 this week. I won't hold my breath, But under $3.00 would be nice. I'm considering oil instead of pellets as its just a squeak of savings with pellets. Holding out a week or 2 to see if the price drops a bit more and that will decide. I may do a lil of both if its an equal price. But not having to fill every day and clean the stove stuff kind of favors my lazy butt to just fill the tank.
Ours has done nothing but go up looking even from the cheapest guy in town. I saw a sign at another HHO company while I was driving around and they show $4.19. Also gas went up to $3.89, so another 10 cents
Just checked for HHO and the lowest price is $3.53. Gas is at $3.99 at the local Mobil. I’m hoping it isn’t too cold of a winter.
Checking the oil prices this morning, I see that home heating oil is close to $4.00 per gallon in New England. In my opinion, the price of HHO will increase more than the price of pellets do, over winter 2023-2024. Hence, now is the time to purchase wood pellets, if you have not already done so. Check www.McManusFuels.com. Henry provides accurate predictions about the future availability of wood pellets.
last year oil here was 5.00 gallon.. got a new oil tank and it was pricey to fill it up..13-1400.00. but, that was april 2022 and still have bit less than half tank using the harman stove 24/7 for heat...
Went by the "best" (most reliable/dependable, best service etc) oil place in town yesterday and they were showing $4.19/gallon for HHO. I believe they still give a percentage discount for payment by check or cash within 10 days. Haven't seen the independent oil delivery guy (doesn't store his own oil) on the town FB page for over a week and he is usually a bit cheaper. However, his truck seems to be in the shop on a regular basis so he isn't as dependable, nor is he able to provide automatic deliveries. Plus, he only takes cash at time of delivery. But seems to be a good option for those that don't want auto delivery and don't wait until the last second to request a fill up.
Locally its around 3.89. Up .10 in the last week. I pre bought 350 gallons at $3.45 a month ago. Several months ago I swore I would not do that again but the oil co I used last year made things right and did not charge the $1.75 "penalty" for unused gallons as long as I kept the funds on account which was my intention all along. One of the silliest clauses I ever saw. At $3.45/gallon on pre buy I took that as safe a price as can be this year and 350 gallons isnt enough for the season so if prices fall or rise I will deal with that at end of heating season. All the while I wont be worried about not using all of the contract gallons.
