Will a husq. chain fit a Stihl saw?

Will a Oregon chain fit a Stihl saw?

    18"

You would think they would. Right?

    Lowes. Hurry. LOL

    For the MS290? Yes. if it's .325 chain you need .063" 74DL. If it's 3/8" chain you most likely need .050" 66DL.

This assumes you have a Stihl bar on the saw.

Wow. You definitely had your work cut out for you.

As long as the pitch, gauge, and drive links are the same? You can use any chain.

    .375 x .050 x 66 drive links (18" Stihl Chain or Husqvarna is 68 drive links)

It's below grade now! That stump cost me so much sweat...... I decided to bring it home so I can burn it in the boiler late next winter. I ended up with two Oregon's.

Glad you got it done Gas..... Even if you did have to buy a semi-chisel safety chain to get there..... :p

Semi chisel was a good choice. (Not that you had one!) the safety chain aspect of it probably slowed you down some with the nose of the bar buried but it sure didn't affect the outcome of the battle!
    Nice work brother.

Originally I thought you were joking.
    Sorry about that.
The size of the chain is usually stamped on the bar.
Chain is by size to match your saw & bar not by brand of saw.
Pitch, gauge, type. (low profile or standard) , & drive links

The box stores carry safety chain.
Saw shops carry the good stuff.

    Stihl saw shop carry this:
For dirty cutting like you were doing, the Stihl RM would be a good choice. RM3 is safety chain, which is OK.
For cutting clean wood, fast cutting The Stihl RS pro grade or the RS3 safety chain is great & fast.
Your 290 is 18" but could be
    .325 pitch, .063 gauge & have 74 drive links chain #: 26 RM3 74 or 26 RS 74
    or it's
    3/8 pitch, .050 gauge & has 66 drive links. chain # : 33 RM3 66 or 33 RS 66

Oregon carries pretty much the same types , different numbers .
Online Search for an Oregon dealer near you, he can hook you up with a few decent pro chains too.

This is very true. We are going to get the wife's grandchildren and they will be spending the next 2 and half weeks with us. Time to relax. :DThe only work I will be doing when they are here is grass mowing and weed eating. Well, I have to go to my regular job, but I don't have to take any overtime. I wanted to get that stump out of there and get the grass seed planted before we left to get them. Done. After this morning, all seed will be down and everything finished off. Thanks for reminding me saves!

I suppose, with me working the saw, safety chain is good.  They seem to cut nicely, the Elm was a bear though. And they still aren't designed to enjoy eating the dirt! I scraped the whole stump with the backhoe and my boot to clean it off best I could. Still ate some dirt.:zip:

Nice set up with the bobcat and that will be some good wood to burn with. Dont feel bad, your not the only one that the chains confuse.

I like RM chain. It cuts and cuts and cuts! I have gone all day on a loop of RM.

I have a few loops of RS and it will cut fine for a bit and it doesn't take but a little bit of dirt to kill it. I'm usually lucky to get 2-3 tanks at the very most.

I only have a few small saws that I can even get chain for at lowes. Mainly earthquake small husky and a top handle stihl. Thats assuming I want to buy overpriced safety chain as well!!

But Yea chains assuming all the numbers are the same will fit any manufacture saw.
