American Biomass is acquiring the brand name, trademarks and customer lists of Okanagan Wood Pellets from Viridis Energy Inc. of Vancouver, Canada.

Since AB doesn't product pellets, it just sells them, I'm not sure what that means for the actual pellets that are to be bagged under the Okanagan brand - whether they will live up to the expectations from past Okie users. Hope so.

Link no workie, But I assume they will get all the old stock(at upton plant) and market new in the same fashion?

Contract Dana/Gafton(Upton owners) to fill bags for them would be likely. Seeing the Okanagan mill is kaput. They will have to contract with another BC mill to send in bulk. Not sure if they will continue with BM to supply the DF's. That would need to be hashed out as Viridis likely owes $$ to them.

    Fixed the link.

The aren't acquiring stock - name brand, logo and customer lists only

Looks like they are marketing them too(notice they are now on their site). They are the parent company of Wood Pellets dot com IIRC. I bet they add those to their list as well. Could be doing their own filling?? But again IIRC Upton does fill for WP dot com as well. Or at least from time to time in busy season. I have heard some say they have seen Cleanfire's on Upton's grounds........

Does this mean the stores selling Northern Warmth need to stop using advertising suggesting that Okanagan was taken over by NW?

    copied from their marketing material....
One of the best softwood pellets on the market, Okanagan Wood Pellets are made from 100% softwood sawdust. There are no additives, bark, or other possible contaminants giving this fuel a low .39% ash level.

Okanagan's meet the Super Premium standard of the Pellet Fuel Institute.

    super premium???????????

Once upon a time PFI did have a super premium. Dumped just before they went to the bar graph labels. Which many don't use.

And for what its worth, Okies never was a PFI certified pellet.

Buy the name, the customer list and the reputation. Put out advertising that its the best based on what you bought which isnt product. For a while Harley Davidson was owner by AMF (bowling balls)-yeah, that went well.

Who wants to be the guinea pig and buy the first ton? :)

Well the Okies mill is no more. Pretty sure all was auctioned off or will be anyway. They could put what ever they want in them. Likely another BC mill. Decarcon or Eagle Valley. Maybe even Pinnacle.

True, the mill is gone and that's what I am getting at and it could be NEWP in those bags as well. Sure, that is unlikely and its more likely that they will use a comparable product but until we know for sure............

I betting they are using the same theory as Northern Warmth. Not many could tell the difference on what they are bagging now to what Okies was.

There are some that could. ;)

Anyone here burn Pinnacle Wood Pellets. Tried them last year and I didn't find them to be really all that great. Thoughts?

Not in many many years(like around 10 or so). Pretty decent compared to the hardwoods we had available at that time. Don't see them here these days. Last I saw of them were when they were bagged as Dragon Mountains. And they go back 6 years or so.
