I've shot M&Ps a lot at work and really like them. I just never owned one. That'll change when this shows up. LEO Trade-In Smith & Wesson M&P40 .40 S&W Handgun
That's a real good price! And, probably hardly used. I couldn't believe that I had colleagues that just didn't like shooting and would literally shoot once a year at annual qualification.
I haven't used Armslist. Aim Surplus is just an online gun dealer. You can look their site over for yourself. I bought a couple of guns from them years ago and was happy with the transactions.
AIM often has great LEO trade in deals. Typically very low use, but a crap shoot as to how worn it is from daily carry.
I've got 2 fullsize .40 m&p .40s with 9mm barrels. And a compact .40 with an extra 9mm barrel. Excellent guns. Very accurate. Plus the versatility of an added caliber. Cheaper ammo. I reload my own saves a lot of money.
Can't go wrong with one of those. As much as everyone has a crying fit over the trigger pull, about 1,000-1,200 rounds through makes the trigger pull quite bearable. Maybe this one is already there!
And, you can always take it by a gunsmith and have them modify the trigger to lighter-pounds...I did that with my Glocks and it makes all the difference in the world.
First thing I do in the morning at weapons qual is pick out who I don't want to be close to on the range.
I picked it up over the weekend. It appears to be in good shape. Gave it a cleaning yesterday and have been ordering holsters.
AIM and Vance's in Columbus area get most of the larger agency trades in Ohio. It's better if you visit and hand pick. There is another dealer, Cope's, but won't deal with them anymore. They shafted me on some "tarnished" 308 a few yrs ago. Stuff was corroded to the point the case walls were paper thin. Palmetto State Armory had some Italian Police trade Beretta 92's imported a few years ago. It had very little holster wear. Most PD stuff has been carried more than its been shot. My DHS buddy is the exception. He was a shooter back when he bought his own ammo, now that we pay for it, he shoots his allotment every month.
This is becoming my favorite carry pistol 10+1 .40 Might buy a 2.0 m&p 9mm Its glock 19 size and 13+1 cap.
Apex makes a great trigger for the older model M&PS. I have heard the newer generations are better out of the box. I haven't shot them though. I have the older version of the M&P9c with Trijicon night sights and the Apex trigger. It's been my daily carry for 6 yrs. It has somewhere around 4k rounds of factory and reloads through it. I love it. When I started carrying it and switched to my reloads I was having problems with extraction and ejection. Turned out it was the fact my reloads were loaded lighter than it liked. They function 100% in my old Ruger P85, but the M&P doesn't like them. I am running the rest of the older reloads through my Ruger and my son's CZ Scorpion carbine. All new reloads are burning a faster powder with 124gr and cycle perfectly. No, I don't carry reloads. I carry 124gr Winchester Ranger-T series. Flash inhibitors are great for allowing you to see after your first shot in low light conditions.
I was in a local shop looking at kydex holsters and looked at a Stealth Operator. The package made big claims about how it fits over 150 different guns. I was doubtful but it looked cool, so the guy at the counter offered to take an M&P40 out of the display case and let me check the fit. I couldn't believe how well this generic holster fit. I bought it right there.
Good deal! I bought one a couple years ago new with 2 mags & extra threaded bbl. I like the gun except for one thing...the trigger. I don't mean the action of the trigger, but the physical shape of it. Something about the very bottom of the curve of the trigger that messes with my index finger and is distracting. Don't recall ever having any malfunctions, even with cheap ammo. They wear a suppressor pretty well. More blowback than my P-09, but not too bad. I had shopped the Apex kits at one time, but never followed through. I have heard some very good things about the 2.0 versions of this gun.
