Some "features" are best unincluded. If I wanted to be on Faceplant, I'd still have a membership there for Zuckerberg to exploit.
It's not something that you have to use, but for those who do it should help FHC grow by making us more visible in the social media.
I understand. If we're linked there, and my posts end up on there......I'm afraid I'm out. I didn't become a member here, to have my stuff shared there.
Understand your dislike for Facebook. Too nany people share stuff freely there. With the link you only show up as papadave on the post you made...just like it happens when someone comes here. Your personal info isn't out there other than what you share here.
I'm aware of all that, yet I thought we'd stay away from obvious and purposeful linking to places like that. My naivete is showing. schlot, keep thinking that. Nothing is private anymore, but I don't have to purposely make it easily available for all the whack jobs out there. I look at this place as a haven where I can go to visit with like minded folks.....kind of like having people visit my home, or me theirs. I don't invite the world. They wouldn't fit anyway. Guess I'll just quit sharing so much. What a shame.
I think you missed the point papa....what you have shared here (a public forum) is just as public as Facebook is. I posted this story as fun for everyone to read, and I'm not crazy about where this is heading, so perhaps I need to ask Grizzly Adam to pull the link off Facebook. I didn't think his posting was going to create an issue with anyone.
papadave This is all that is showing up on facebook-- the beginning of a post, a picture and a link. Here is a screenshot:
We have been on FB since day one. Scotty Overkill has been a huge driving force in getting our Page out to other like minded forums (Wood stoves, Masonry Heaters, Fireplaces, Chainsaw groups, etc). Here is a screenshot of how many people our page reached out to. Our page has reached out to over 6,000 people. There are so many other people out there that are just like us, that are searching for this haven as well. These little "media" buttons didn't change anything that I could have done yesterday. I could have just as easily shared a thread yesterday, but now I have one less step. No one can see your personal page. There is no intrusion of privacy. Just a simple way to share the social media with others. There are still members of our FB page that are not members here because they are the polar opposite. They love the social media connection and stay on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter all day.
