    There around 10.5k rpms they're within .5 hp and that's where a lot of them will cut without a lot of pressure. That's probably why most people with ported ones don't see the big difference in cut speed.

    At 10,500 they are only a 1/2 HP apart! That's still a stout 461! Seeing how it's gonna live right around there in the real world! Awesome! Thanks again! !

    Good point Mike, also of note is that @9.5K-10.5K the ported 660 is making 1HP more. That being said, folks could actually run at a lower RPM, get more and save stress on the saw.

    The ported 660 needs to run an 8 pin......that would help take advantage of the lower HP point.

    Here's the percent increases of the ported 660 over the stock 660:
    RPM's %>
    8500 = 35.4
    9000 = 37.5
    10000 = 59.7
    11000 = 73.7
    12000 = 180

    Randy, I have an 8-pin and I'll definitely switch it from the stock 7-pin.

    An 8 pin would surely keep chain speed up at a lower RPM about 12% different ratio to final drive with the 8 pin. Number wise 9.5k is 90.4% of 10.5K RPMs well within the range of the 8 pin to deliver the same chain speed at 9500.

    This is where dynos do not tell the whole story. If we step up the sprocket size to lower engine RPMs and maintain the same chain speed, what have we gained other than weight? That graph looks to me to be a saw that needs to run a bigger bar in bigger wood than the 461.

    I love how flat that ported power curve is, betcha you can lean on that saw so hard it needs a seat. ;):dancer:

    And what was Stihl advertising the 660 at stock? 7.0 hp? :rofl: :lol: Not even close with the DP, let alone stock.

    @KilliansRedLeo Randy's saw looks to be making more power than the stocker at clutch stall rpm! :D

    Ya that 660 is a torque monster. Hats off to Randy. Ive always wondered how a ported 461 would do against a ported 660 in wood 25" and under? Anyone know?

    It would be interesting to see the saws cutting the same log (before and after ported) and see how the gains in the dyno chart compare to performance in the log.
