www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/west-chester-mens-grain-deerskin-thinsulate-gloves-pack-of-2 I have one pair of these and i really like them. I dont use them often for firewood because the leather is thin
I wonder if we all found the best kind if it would be a good seller in the SWAGS store to support this place? Maybe one of our blacksmiths here could create a brander? Ya, guess not, logistics would be really hard between purchasing, getting the "branded", then shipping.
I had a pair of these. Was given as a gift. They were the most winterproof gloves I've ever worn. I used to use them to hand wash my vehicles with a bucket & sponge when it was cold enough for the soap to freeze on the body panels. Also used to pull ice chunks out of a stock watering tub in the dead of winter. I got them very muddy at one point and tried to wash them in the washing machine. The liners pulled inside out and I could never get them back in correctly. They have wear pads in the right places and still give good dexterity. Very spendy though.
Are these what you guys are talking about ? https://www.amazon.com/Ironclad-CCT2-03-M-Tundra-Glove-Black/dp/B00MPQKY9Y?th=1 They look like I might want them
Thanks guys, never wood have guessed that latex dipped gloves would last. I'm going to look for some Atles gloves!
If you want cut protection that greatly reduces what's available but for daily saw work its not a bad idea. Most high end saw gloves are made with a few materials but goat skin is the main part of the glove......super soft.
I believe the Atlas brand uses Nitrile rubber, which is tougher than latex. I use latex because they are cheaper. They do wear faster than Nitrile though. Keep both varieties away from petroleum products, which will break down the rubber.
I have been using these for several years: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0084CRP1I/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I go through one pair every six months on average, according to my Amazon order history. Have found them to be a good fit and pretty durable, what usually happens is that I wear the fingertips out. I have contemplated some sort of self-adhesive patch, maybe even Gorilla tape wrapped around the fingertips before I start wearing them out. Might give me an extra few months on each pair. Also heard very good things about the Showa Atlas gloves, cloth gloves dipped in latex. I wonder about the grip, since I wouldn't normally switch gloves between chainsaw use and firewood handling.
Best lasting gloves I've ever worn and reasonably comfortable are the maxi gloves, leather gloves (deer, goat or calfskin) while more comfortable don't last 1/10 the time as the nitrile dipped gloves. I wear a size 7.5 glove and the XL fits a touch tighter than perfect but I can still wear them for hours at a time. http://www.atg-glovesolutions.com/s...de/glove_sizing_guide_eu_colours_16_04_04.pdf
I picked these up from HF as well really liked them at first but after a while my skin starts to turn yellow.
The Atlas thermal gloves have been great for me. I ordered them after they were recommended on this site last year or the year before. They are affordable, comfortable and washable.
Those yellow rubber dipped gloves at HF don't last long, the rubber usually shreds off of the fabric. I buy them for my kids since they don't work as long or as hard. I find the blue rubber dipped gloves from the depot last much longer. I almost always wear a hole through the thumb or pointer . I've got some of these recommended gloves in my shopping cart on amazon, better price, hopefully they really last
You talking about the Atlas Fit gloves ? Come back and give an update after you have used them awhile
One of the perks of my job is seeing vendors at safety shows. I was talking with a glove vendor at an event in Massachusetts a couple weeks ago. Look what showed up today via FedEx. I'll try and remember to post my thoughts on these after I get a chance to use them.
