I thought I'd pop this back up! This is what started it all! And was one of the first posts ever on FHC! Okay guys, here we go.......AGAIN!! There can be different levels of addiction, lets discuss. 1 to 3 cord = social hoarder 3 to 6 cord = wood-a-holic 6 to 10 cord = cord-hoarder 10 to 15 cord = BTU possesor 15 to 20 cord = SWA (severe wood addict) 20 to 25 cord = FBCJ (full-blown cordwood JUNKIE) 25 - 30 cord = woodpile PSYCHO. 30 - 35 cord = Firewood FREAK 35 cord - up = Cordwood CORLEONE So guys and gals, what do you think? Lets get this thing going AGAIN, we can put it in our signatures!
I did about 200 cords last year. Here at the house I just keep 5-10 cords usually... Couple years worth.
Shoot, I forgot to say my rank. BTU Possessor. 11 cord is a two year supply and about all that I can store on my property and still have garden and be able to enjoy the yard.
Just "finished" the new wood shed this last weekend...OK it's not completely full yet but I've got the wood to fill it and the roof is not finished yet Average height 7ft x 7.5ft wide (5 rows of 18 inch splits) x 50ft= 20.5 cords The 5ft section in the middle is an "uglies" bin and the wood is just thrown in there so I'd say 20 cords. This one holds 4.5 I've got another 2-3 cords with no shed So that puts me firmly in the Psycho category
Got a source this last winter less than a mile from home. Hauled in 11 triaxle loads of veneer cutoffs. I'm guessing 50 cords. 20+ previously processed and ready to burn. 15 ton of coal in the bin just so O-"NO"-ma doesn't turn the heat off. Yeah I'm set for awhile.
I don't consider myself hardcore, but thanks, just trying to keep up with what Mother Nature puts down. After this last area is done, our stacking room around the house will be full, I'm not sure what my plan will be for more wood. We're happy with what we have, I remember Sav talking about getting a year ahead....then two and so on, I think he said something about taking a break, it's almost that time. Winter 2014 = Heavy snow with more ice storms for our area.
Maybe you don't consider yourself hard core, but in my eyes you are. I understand "your getting it before it rots" motto. You enjoy it, work on it throughout the week, every week.... & love the pics. Yes, this winter will be a doozy again, I stopped a chipmunk and used a Google translate app, and basically the chipmunk said "get your chit ready for the winter"
Heavy rains coming in tomorrow for our area, if they are correct on the forecast. We have seen more action at the feeders (bird) with the chipmunks this year.
I've been slipping a bit. Have to quit giving wood away for a while to get stocked back up. We're SWA.
I fluctuate between SWA & FBCJ Depending on the time of year. Woodshed full & a new 8 cord stack of fresh stuff out back drying. Oct the wood shed is full 21+ cord & 8 cord in the seasoning stack By May one section of the wood shed is empty 7 - 8 cord went up in smoke
