Thats what i felt like today. Spoke to their boss last week when i ran into them working down the street from me and he told me where they would be cutting. My travels had me going that way earlier this week and nothing. Was headed to my "high & low btu" score to cut which took me by there again and bingo. They were working there and my plans changed abruptly. :saw:
Sassafras and sugar maple in one yard. IMG_4668.JPG IMG_4670.JPG Some cherry and oak next door IMG_4683.JPG IMG_4684.JPG Plus this prize...shagbark hickory. Cant get much straighter than that. IMG_4685.JPG I bucked up what sassy i wanted plus the sugar maple. Lady was nice enough to let me park and cut in their yard. Took the sassy for now including some mill fodder. IMG_4687.JPG IMG_4686.JPG Ill go back tomorrow after the rain for another load or two. IMG_4681.JPG

Hey that's quite a score. Nice variety too.
Looks like a cord or better all told . . .
    I'm stoked for ya!

Todays load of sassy maybe a face cord. I bucked maybe a half cord of the sugar maple. (its safe in their yard) Id say close to a cord for the rest. Plus they are making their way down the street. Some primo wood so its a priority. At least a load tomorrow and ill cut another on Sunday. Stay tuned.

Im stoked too. :dancer: Doesnt take much for us crazy :loco:  hoarders :tree:does it?

Never had opportunity to burn any sassafras. Is it good BTUs? Does it smell good like black birch?

Low btu's. Dries fast. Splits easily. Splits a lot when burned. Smells like root beer. One of my favorite wood smells.

    No it doesn't!!!
I still ogle trees, downed trees, and peoples wood piles from the tracks in your area. I'm habitually searching yards for wood piles, town properties for tree pieces piled high, and the back sides of business properties for BL stands.
The very worst is seeing many many trees cut and tossed carelessly by the track department. Much of them are 'yard trees', but many are straight for 30' . . .

I think I’d have to stay overnight with the SBH to make sure I get it first. Freaking nice score right there. I’m jealous.

Now youve got me debating on what to cut first tomorrow? The smaller oak and cherry will be grabbed first by the average hoarder and the shag being bigger, ignored. Rain is ending in the nod morning so i doubt and hoarders will be out. Its a busy state highway, but room for me to park and cut safely.

Phenomenal score Brad. All excellent species to hoard. Scores like that really get me thinking how overboard I could go if I got off my own caboose and got my trailer fixed up and on the road ;)

and end up with wood piles dominating your landscape,
even with a dozen cord stashed in a shed.

    Overheard when Brad rolled up:
“Hey boss, that guy is back.”
    “What guy?”
“The one with a bent tailgate….”

Second load today. Cherry, oak, sugar maple with a couple rounds of hickory. The maple is safe in their yard so wanted to get the highly visible stuff first. 261 did the honors. IMG_4694.JPG IMG_4696.JPG IMG_4697.JPG I left the shag for the next cutting. The poison ivy guarding it. Probably going again tomorrow IMG_4693.JPG
