Ah yes the one in 1993 is the one I vividly remember (sheesh, how did 1993 get 31 years behind us already? :picard:) Despite the fire and brimstone raining down upon us while we huddled under the desks chanting in tongues, we survived. Now seeing Halley's Comet would be something worth getting hyped about IMO. Enjoy the eclipse with your kids anyway. Hopefully they'll hang on to those memories for many years to come.

I guess where you're viewing it from really factors in. Where I was I remember after lunchtime it got about as dark as when a really nasty summer thunderstorm is rolling in. Nothing too crazy, but eerie and somewhat exciting for being a kid.

I generally don’t stare into the sun when it’s out cuz it don’t feel good. With it being partially blocked it might make it easier on the eye but not actually. Gotta protect the sheep from doing dumb chit. Lol

There was a (near)total eclipse here around 1958-1960 or so. Fairly quickly it was midnight. We did the pinhole in a piece of paper routine. Went to check the chickens and they were all inside on their roosts. Of course the roosters had to do their daybreak crowing routine afterwards , which isn't that much different from their any time during the day crowing routine.

The airlines don't seem to be having any problems adjusting flights to spend a few extra minutes in the path nor selling flights whose only purpose is to fly along the path of totality.

I'm gonna bet there will be "viral" images and movie shorts on youtube and whatnot.

I'll have to check the Farmer's Almanac to see if it is going to rain .....

My area is one of the longest duration for the event. William Shatner is arriving to some event. There are folks around the world who follow the eclipses. A friend has people from Germany coming.

government and schools are closed. An authority on the events says the day after will be hectic as well with the exodus away.

I plan to walk out the back door at work and stand around for a minute or 2. We're pretty much in the totality path.

What a joke. I just don't understand. I live in a small town called Buchanan. Every july 4th, when the redbud mx race is held, our population increases by about 10 times. Normally about 4000 people. When the race is here about 40000 people. It happens again in the fall when the mx of nations race is here. Usually more than 40k show up for that one.

Needless to say, when the race is in town there's no cell service to be had for the most part.

Solar eclipse on April 8 prompts cell phone warning

Should we call in the national guard to help us like some cities are doing for this eclipse? I swear I've seen state of emergencies claimed by some cities already?

My wife and I are heading from Delaware to Cleveland. We have tickets to go to the Great Lakes Science Center during the day. Hoping they have some fun eclipse content for the day.

We are in a good spot where we are in NH, just outside the zone of totality. We plan on going west to St. Johnsbury Vermont, or maybe Montpelleir . Both towns are close by and in the zone, we'll get something to eat while we are over there.

We are toward the southern edge of total eclipse...probably gonna take off work a lil early (have PTO to burn anyways) and head to the house...kids are off school, so may as well hang out for a while.

Here in central AR they are expecting so much traffic influx that as of sunset today until sunrise next Wednesday no oversized load permits. Talking about near a million people travel into the state. I think the eclipse is cool, but people are acting like it's a new thing.

For most people, a full solar eclipse is.
