A few more quarters this afternoon.

Lots of trunk left and I’d rather not let it rot on the edge of this drainage ditch. The saga continues.

And it looks perfectly healthy. Wonder why they dropped it? There won’t be anymore beech around soon enough.

Minus the newly present beech leaf disease in the vicinity, it was healthy. I was looking at the old Google Maps street view of it and my best guess is it was determined to be a hazard to the power lines. The tree towered over the lines and had a lean towards the road, with the main trunk broken off years ago. Lots of cutting going on recently to remove problematic trees close to the utilities. I'll take advantage wherever I can

Glad you whittled at it some more. Beech is a favorite of mine.

Makes sense. I get the notion they do more and better work in your and Brads part of the state. Maybe just because there’s more customers on a specific line. They seem more willing to gamble near me LOL

The finish line is in sight  Four more 16” rounds and one shorty section where the big knot is. Hopefully I can get the rest next week.

That is smart to mark four great 16" rounds and leave the excess short for the knot!

Short on time today. I was able to finish bucking the log, then watched in horror as one by one the rounds settled into the bottom of the drainage ditch. I had just enough time to extract 4 quarters and 1 half round before having to take off. I’m on a mission to snag the rest this week. :dex:

It’s in the bag now  Thank you to all the enablers for the scrounger encouragement. I’m not sure I could keep up the level of enthusiasm without you all ;) Now begins the real work of splitting and stacking. I’m fully expecting a lot of twisted splits, so a Holzhausen is in order.
