We'll be widening a trail near the house tomorrow, I'll get a before and after picture tomorrow. There's nothing huge but it's all white pine, it will make plowing that part of the trail much easier..... the stump pulling should be easy. In the picture you can see a small pine to the right of the tractor, there's stuff like that and some bigger pine behind the tractor.
Will do, some might need a rope or cable on them so they come down through the bigger pines that are close by.
I think it was three trees that we took down, two small and one a bit bigger but nothing huge. Picture 0427 is before and 0436 is after, the rest is what we took down except for the bigger one. Everything is all bucked up and ready to split.
These two are coming down tomorrow which will finish this trail for this winter except for digging out some small stumps. The taller pine (#2) I'll need to get the cable up higher so we can pull it through the other chit azz pines.
It was a perfect day, cool and not a bug around so it was nice cutting. What are the morning temps in your area, we had 42 this morning.
Is was 54 this morning....setting at 61 now, heading out to the fire pit, just got back from an ice cream run.
I just need to take care of the brush and three or four stumps and this trail project will be finished.
Are you the only one that operates the tractor, or have you trained your wife also? (to drive the tractor, that is....)
Just like 99 did for you, the wife trained me! Actually she can drive it (her father drove heavy equipment) and when the union went on strike at Alcoa years back she drove some heavy equipment. She doesn't drive it much but if she wanted to, she would be just fine.
We took time today so we could take care of the tomatoes, we boiled them down and then ran them through the old Oster, we're making spaghetti sauce and then freeze it. I did chip yesterday but left the camera in the house after loading up the batteries, after the chipping was done we moved some wood in so we can have some fires which our new dog loves. We're usually 3-4 degrees colder than the forecast low so I think we'll hit 35 or maybe lower tonight.
Later this afternoon I split some of the pine from the trail clearing, I should finish splitting all the pine tomorrow depending on the rain. I'll get some pictures tomorrow of what's left and what I split. The three days we received rain, it measured just over 1.5 inches.
Picture 0458 is what was split before today, the rest is from the splitting done today. I already have two f/c stacked for the shoulder season of 2018 and this should give us another four f/c.
The little stool is easier when carrying it in the back of the rhino heading up the hills, for me the milk crate was a pain in the arse. I think the most shoulder season wood we ever burned was 8 face cord, 6 in the fall and another 2 in the spring because it stayed cold forever.
I'll finish splitting the pine tomorrow (got chased from that job by the rain today) and then haul the splitter back in the woods tomorrow so I can split some good hardwood. I'll have those pictures tomorrow afternoon.
