Been quiet lately on the hoarding and FHC fronts. Finally got a fix this weekend with 3 quality loads:
    - Oak and some mystery low density wood. What is this?
    - Locust! My first ever locust score. So easy to split.
    - 3+ year old oak rounds ready to burn in the boiler. Forgot to snag a pic.

I’d say it’s about 2.5-3 cords total. Plan to spend an hour hand splitting before work each day. You guys have me skipping the hydraulic splitter now and going by hand with the isocore!

Looking chunky! Get your handsplitting in now, before it gets hot, you can go back to using the splitter in summer.

Nice to see you back in action zombie. Thought maybe you were hibernating or something. Some primo wood in those loads. I scored my first locust back in October and have been on a kick to get it. Wait'll you cut dead locust...stuffs like a rock. It does hand split easily. Yeah, like midwinter said, hand split now and hydro in the Summer. Ill nibble away like you do...an hour here or so here and there.
cigarsmokingzombie the mystery wood looks like polar of Norway maple. Any pics of it split?
I didnt see the locust? Any pics of that?

    Beautiful score :dex:

I've been slow as well and haven't done any hoarding this winter. However this morning I heard some loud motors running, poked my head outside and a line of tree trucks were lined up. Taking some trees down on the for sale house across the street. Talked to one of the guys, said he would dump a nice load in the front of driveway, fingers crossed!

Your mystery wood is either basswood or Norway Maple.

It’s definite not Norway. I have a ton of that and it’s much denser. Basswood might be a hit. Glad I only have a little.

No pics on the locust split yet, but it was solid orange in the core. I hand split a few logs and didn’t take a pic.

Which reminds me. I need to find some cannon fuse ;) I have an oak in the backyard that would be a good candidate for demolition.

So I was hoping for a nice load when I got home from work yesterday ......wah wah wah................. Hey I'll take it and I am very much appreciative and grateful that they even remembered and took the time and effort to walk this across the street and stack it nice and neat. Wish I was able to thank them but they were long gone. Every little bit counts!

cigarsmokingzombie glad we got you into the hand splitting club. Great idea going after it an hour a day before work, great exercise. Just don’t over do it on your shoulders and back. Don’t be afraid to take a recovery day and work some other muscles, your back and shoulders will appreciate it and you will be stronger and more productive on the days you split!

Thanks to all the pressure from last year, we made the Tannerite explosions on TG an annual event. There was no leaner involved but it was still epic. Slowed down on hoarding due to Covid and grandchildren and work, but I’m always looking. Lit up the boiler this week and loving the process. Unfortunately, we are off to warmer weather in Jan so my wood will rot :(. Gonna be hanging out in HH, SC for 4 months in and RV during the Winter. I have a month to split and cover about 12 cords before we leave. Covid changes everything. Whooooooood!
