Not for homeowner, and even light commercial use...those "all in one" (pump and motor in the same housing) Hydrogear drives are fine...especially if you stick with the 2800 and up, which have a spin on filter and you can change the oil...even the sealed ones are OK for someone with a small flat lot...TONS of 'em out there!
Once you get into ZTR's with a single pump and 2 wheel motors (like the Parkers...and the White brand on my Mini-Z...Hydrogear makes some like this too) on a modern ZTR that will be full on heavy duty commercial stuff...at this point you are starting to get into similar stuff to what you see on forklifts, manlifts, etc, etc...

So what is the tuff torq on the spartan mowers? I think the 300 and up have replaceable filters/ serviceable. There's not much info on them out there. Granted, I'm at with and can't research my new toy.;)

    TZ-450 - Tuff Torq Corporation

This is the tuff torq 450, that is the first of the tuff torq line to use a serviceable filter. I don't see an axle shaft size listed. This is what's on the spartan rz pro.

Specs look pretty good on the 450 tuff tq. Similar to the hydro gear 2800 from what it appears

    I saw that.

At what point do you need long travel off road suspension? ;). The neighbor to my cutting buddy got some 15+ mph scag ztr. Cheetah I think? Name checks out:bug:

Well I can tell you that the 8 MPH my MZ will go is plenty for my lil ole 2 acres...but for the large acreage at work, the 12 MPH of the Diesel Z is nice...and at that speed some suspension is almost necessary, unless its pretty darn smooth!

Huh...they must underdrive the hydros for some reason...or use smaller tires than what the 450 TT is designed for?
Probably spend $20 putting larger pulleys/larger tires on the "next model up" and then charge $500 for the faster ZTR :picard: :hair:

I'm sensing sarcasm..........but I'm not sure. As one must be a Bad Boy to be a Hustler!

AFAIK, and I could be completely wrong, but it seems Bad Boy is not affiliated with any other brand. They are a stand alone company.

No sarcasm, this time...both made by Excel Industries of Hesston KS.
Edit: OOOPS! Nope, that's Big Dog, not Bad Boy! :picard:  :emb:

Our OPE dealer has had several brands in their shop. Bad Boy, Big Dog, Hustler, Country Clipper...even had Walkers several years ago...those are :makeitrain"...:faint:...base models start about 10K...
We have 2 Hustlers here at work. They bought the Super Z Hyperdrive last time. It has the B&S Vanguard 36 hp on it. It will FLY...

Now reading the other lower RZ line, even the entry level rz-c, it says they ( rz-c with tuff tq 300, and the standard rz ) have serviceable drives. But elsewhere it doesn't mention that, so I think their site/ brochure is wrong

Horkn - I have a Toro 52” cut, 7 gauge deck with 19 HP Kawasaki-I was a Wheel Horse man for years mowing my 3 acres of lawn every week-I have the FH580V and its been a jewel-Z400 Z Master industrial commercial I bought new in 2007. I rocked the Wheel Horse w/the 12 HP Kohler from 1989 til then, Kohlers with the cast iron sleeve cylinders are tough-my WH sat for years and I put jumper cables on it and it fired right up, can’t go wrong either way but Toro is a tough competitor, see it most on golf courses along with the X Marks….I sold the Wheel Horse to a friend and its still in use…Wheel Horse is now Toro…They bought them out mid 90’s I think. No stamped steel anywhere and very serviceable with filter and zirk fittings

I talked with the gravely dealer. He's out of the 52" ztxl regardless of engine options. He has a 48" ztxl with the 23hp kawi for the same price as the raptor xd 54". I don't see that as a deal in comparison despite the 1 yr and 100 more hours longer warranty.

I'll stop at the toro dealer on my way home, but I'm not leaning towards the toros. If I don't get the raptor xd, I might go for a spartan. They really offer a lot more than the other brands. I still need to see what the other hustler dealer says for the same raptor xd. Ones 15 miles, the other 16 miles away. The one that is 15 miles away will deliver it for free too and it's an area I go regularly anyway.
