Your winter total?

Sounds like a good plan - I went from $1200 to fill the tank at the beginning of the season another $3-400 early February season (piece of mind) partial fill,(we ran out once) to not putting a drop in that tank since 2009 or turning on the furnace(that's a 500gal tank @ $2ish and change). Nothing wrong with burning some under seasoned wood - it just prompts you to be further ahead for the coming years. Oh and 63F would be after you let the stove go cold for 12hrs or more.

 

Man you guys burn a lot of wood! Maybe it's the blowers? Or maybe more of you need a Woodstock stove???

I burned somewhere between 2 and 3 cords, I kinda lost track when I emptied my 2 sheds and porch rack and started steeling from the oldest piles out in the weather.

I normally used to burn about 900 to 1000 gallons of oil in a normal year prior to stove. God only knows what I would have burned this past winter without the stove. I burned a total of 202 gallons this year. 800 gallon minimum savings, at $4+ per gallon.

 

Good story, lots of oil and $ saved. And at that you only burned a small amount of wood.

 

From early Oct till a week ago I'm guessing 7+ and 57-40lb buckets of coal.
I had 3.5 in the shed (just started refilling)and started out with 1.5 cord in the furnace room and burned half the heaphausen out back.
Glad its over but hatin' the -20 to 85 in less than 60 days. WTF!!!????

 

3.5 cord of lodge pole pine with the odd assortment of cut up oak pallets. Still burning mornings to take the chill off. Looking forward to a break from daily rain. I thought I lived in the high desert

 

Dang gonna be around 3o tonight was 40 something last night but I didn't light the stove as sit was still above 65 inside. As the temps outside today are having a difficult time making 60 , I will need to fire up this evening. That puts me over 90 gallons of ash for this season. Gave up on cord count likely into the fifth one as I am grabbing uglies and odds and ends. Not running 24/7 anymore

 

LOL! This was last years (Winter of 2013/2014) totals. There is a new one for this past year (2014/2015) winter....

 

I don't burn wood, but my parents have since the mid-1980's when their fuel oil furnace died and they discovered that a little wood burner could heat their house pretty easily. They tend to burn between 7-9 cords a year (as they are in their 80's now, they like it warm in the house), so that is why I am now a wood hoarder...on their behalf.

Well let's see. There was roughly a half cord on the ground from the previous year. I ordered a cord to keep me going. Cut and split the logs on the ground = roughly 2.5 to 3 cords. Finally I purchased 1 ton of Envi-8 bricks. I'm guessing 5 cords or slightly more.

 

4-4 1/2 cords here of pine, heating 800 Sq ft. Estimated need at 5-6 cords going into the winter. Intend to do better this year. Added a drolet Myriad in March and will add another small drolet at the other end of the house. We were keeping the stove room at 110F with a smoke dragon trying to get heat to flow to the other end of the house. With two efficient stoves I think we can run them less WFO and the end result will be higher efficiency.

Probably would be interesting if we could develop a heat density/climate adjusted equation so it's easier to compare my pine at -50f to folks in Missouri burning oak and locust.

 

Hi everyone. First post so here we go. Installed a drolet t 2000 and built masonry chimney in 2400 ft. Cedar log home. Saved enough last year to cover price of stove or chimney. Whichever you choose. Burned about six cords.
