I have a 455 Rancher that I might be willing to part with.

    Used : but fresh.
New aftermarket cylinder and piston , crank seals , fuel lines and anything else it needed during the overhaul.

I was told it needed a cylinder and piston and after taking it apart found out it was a bad crank seal. Since it was apart I just put the replacement cylinder on it anyway. Still have the original so you can have that with it.
Pretty sure it has a new bar and chain as well.

    Never started after rebuilding.

    Make me a reasonable offer.
Otherwise, I will probably list it in For Sale section.

Last Friday when I was hauling wood a few of the logs needed to be cut to fit. I didn’t have any saws with me, so I had to borrow one from the shop I was near. The choices were a small frigged up homeowner Stihl, or a bigger pos homeowner Stihl. Didn’t look at the #’s on the side of either. I just needed it to crank and make a few cuts. The chain on the small one felt decent and fired up. Both looked like they had fallen out of a Kubota rtv onto pavement at least 10x. The bigger one had the top cover duct taped together. Ugh
While smoking a cig waiting for it to finish cutting I wondered why anyone would willingly subject themselves to such pain.

JWinIndiana i can vouch for this. He takes great care of his OPE as ive seen first hand. If there was anyone id want to buy used equipment from it'd be him.

Most folks dont know any better and/or dont know how and wont learn or are too lazy to sharpen. Seen it firsthand myself. Easier to buy a new chain. What were you "trying" to cut?

It was dead hickory and dead white oak. Rock hard wood. I’m pretty sure it had a brand new semi chisel on it.

I have friends with older 55 ranchers and the 545 mk II's. All have at least muffler mods. The mkII's get my vote by a nice margin. Speaking of voting... is anyone else tired of commercials...

One neighbor has a 55 and cuts many cord each year for his outdoor wood burner. I let him use my ported 357xp every once in a while for a log or two but he's firmly rooted in his 55. It's a good saw, but I keep trying to spend his money, but to no avail... LOL

Those 51-55's are darn good saws. Very easy to work on, reliable and also full mag case. Properly cared for, they should last eons. Only negative in my experience is the rubber av system.

Got a husky 450 and 460 at same time new with receipts, from acquaintance that needed to sell fast. Had a Stihl 260 (50cc) so gave the 450 to a friend, that needed saw 10 years ago. Still runs she cuts trees that fall into her fields. Also gave her chaps helmet and correct sized 2 in 1 sharpener…

    Not a bad saw

Great choice. I have the Mk1 Jonsered equivalent of the 545. Excellent little saw.

    Thanks BRAD ,
Not that I want to sell saws but I haven't used it since I went through it so this might be a good time to let it go.
Might be a couple others I could part with also but I need to take baby steps.

So I don't believe in "bests". I like it, I've used it for a while, I've milled a lot with it. I've tore down my saws to inspect the internals to see how they looked and I saw exactly what I wanted to see. Yes, it's more expensive than some, but that's ok w/ me knowing what I've experienced.

I'll put in a second vote for a 450 rancher. I bought the rancher about 2014. its been a good saw, I still use it for smaller stuff or when I get tired of swinging the 572 around. Starts every time, and plenty of snort to run a 20" bar. Had to do some minor TLC to it this year, but given the amount its been used, it was due.

Overall, its been a good saw. It ain't no 572, but it doesn't have the price tag either.

I am closing in on 10 years with mine. Muffler fell off once, then twice, then Loctite came to the rescue. Other than that, does what it should for a 50cc saw. Probably cut 50 cords so far. I have five chains for the 20" bar and rarely go a tank without touching up the chain.

Husky had us all shaking our heads/fists for years with that one. Usually ruins the threaded holes at the exhaust port too. 345's, 350's were notorious for it, and I've seen it with a bunch of smaller models as well.
