I'd like to have a hardware store around here that sells pies and cookies.

Our local grocery store has a ACE hardware attached. The hardware doesn't normally let you check grocerys out there...'cept once in while they'll let their good customers slip a lil snack in with their hardware purchase

    MidStates Bolt & Screw
If you know exactly what you want you can order it on line from there, believe me they have everything. Search their site you will find what you want.
If for some reason you can't find it online, call them up they will have what you need

Thanks HD. Looks like they have a place in Gaylord, and looking on the map I've probably passed it a hundred times or more.
If I can't find what Ray suggested locally, they'll probably be getting a visit from me.

    Boy, so would I.
The bakery is only a couple miles from the hardware, but ya' gotta' know where it is. Just a little building next to these folk's house.
There's also a bulk food store nearby, and a whole bunch of sawmills around there.
I bet Dennis is somewhat familiar with Mio area.

So are these decks removable if you want to cook on the stove top?

There should be room on the front lower portion for cooking, but yes, mine will be removable with a couple screws taken out.

Just came back in from the shop after finishing the semi circle cut. WooHoo! The 17 TPI blade dulled real quick, despite the oil.:headbang:
I put on the 12 TPI, added more oil a couple times and got 'er dun. There was only about 3" of cut left.
Now, I think I'll use the sawzall to make the last straight cut of about 7", then on to the clean up and drilling. Didn't take the phone with me, so I'll take some pics later when I go back out.
I plan to use the cutoffs as practice pieces for the drilling and tapping.
Thanks to you guys, I've learned quite a bit.

Does your jig saw have a variable speed dial, or is "squeeze and go?"

    Variable.
I have a Crapsman from many moons ago, but I bought a new one....another Sears model:headbang:......and I'm seeing a LOT of plate movement, so the cuts have a little bevel or angle. Not a big deal on something like this, but it was causing some blade binding.
    Piece of doo-doo. Want it?
I'm still looking for a gooder one.

Got the back piece done, with a couple coats of paint on it and put another coat on the main deck piece. IMG_20160814_125939_284.jpg IMG_20160814_133043_652.jpg IMG_20160814_133051_721.jpg

Did a test run on the drill/countersink. Maybe I'm running the CS bit too slow, since there's some chatter. Could also be caused by the piece not being held down well enough.
    Thoughts?
That's also a 1/4" hole, which I think is too big for this application.

If you are not familiar with tapping, take it slow, and don't force anything too much. Depending on the quality and the sharpness of the tap, sometimes there can be a thin line between getting the hole threaded, and just snapping the tap off, especially a smaller one like you will be using. Get it started straight with the wood block trick that was mentioned earlier, once its started good you will notice the tap start to turn pretty hard, back it off 1/4 - 1/2 a turn to break the chip off, give 'er a lil squirt of oil and go again. Stop and back up whenever you feel it getting real tight. You can actually feel the tap start to twist just a bit before they actually break (generally anyways) If you don't have a tap holder wrench to operate it with you can use a small vise grips or cresent wrench, just make sure to use a small wrench, it is much easier to break a tap if you are operating it with a lil too much leverage.
Hopefully you have a starter tap that has more taper on it and is made for starting threads on a new hole like you are doing.
They also make a bottoming tap that is more flat on the end and is made for finishing the threads in the bottom of a blind hole.

    All good info, thanks.
I was thinking of just tapping the 1/8" tubing. Is there even enough material there for that?
I'll check the tap & die set I have to see what's inside.
