    Did you know people eat more bananas than monkeys?

    Not that hard to believe, when’s the last time you saw a person eat a monkey?

    I did. Looks too much like folks they said.

    They have a Parson My Plate series on YouTube where they eat other questionable animals like skunk and possum.

    I admit that I've had monkey meat. Bought from a street vendor in Subic Bay/Olongapo PI back in the 70's. Grilled and skewered on bamboo, you got a fist full for around 50cents IIRC.

    :rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol:

    Actually, it was pretty good. Good enough to get again.

    Supposedly, had dog while on liberty there also. The story goes if you ate at this certain restaurant, you've eaten dog meat. Never ate there again.

    Well, I know that it wasn't repulsive. It didn't have an aftertaste. The spices used for seasoning were a mystery as well as the heat source meaning that I'm not sure what type of wood was used to cook it over. Heck, maybe even coal was used?

    It wasn't tough and I didn't have any side effects from it over the "processing time" before it left my body.

    If you have ever eaten warm beef jerky, the stuff prepared in the oven-not the dried out stuff, I guess that would be close to the taste.

    The equivalent? Hmmm....... I like it much more than mutton/lamb/sheep that I've tried.

    All things considered remember this. It was consumed while walking back to the ship after a night of heavy drinking. Very heavy, so there's that!

    I have no problem with at least trying anything new. Your observations were quite interesting! My question had more to do with what would a dyed in the wool Yooper substitute for monkey at a local pot luck since well..the UP has no monkeys. Maybe smoked Civet Cat or possibly fricasseed Fisher Cat or maybe even just Cat. Certainly Muskrat would be in the running or maybe Beaver. Beaver would juxtaposition the rain forest of the southern islands with the lakes and swamps which abound in the UP. That is just a few from my mind but I know what hard headed independent thinkers Yoopers are. Maybe you have a go to traditional dish that you take to barbecues when the local stores are out of canned monkey. Just wondering!
