    …if you have no more room to the point where you promised out loud to not bring any more unseasoned wood home AND it’s the hottest day of the year BUT it’s free black locust and it’s just a couple minute drive from your house!

    (Some of this is oak that I already had but I don’t need to tell you guys that.) Also, the homeowner was so happy to get rid of it and learn a little bit about BL that HE gave ME a dozen fresh laid eggs from his chicken coop! You heard that right—I got paid in eggs to cherry-pick from the best of his BL pile!

    Needed a break from firewood cutting, so took the family to Monterey Ca today. But the FHCer in me had to stop and check out some giant redwoods at Henry Cowell state park.

    Stats please::
    DBH
    How many did you cull out?
    How many years (or lifetimes) of wood will come home?
    ;)
    Sounds like a fun trip. I would definitely do some mental figuring there though. Pie in the sky may it be.
    Good way to beat the heat!

    You might be a firewood hoarder if:

    You spend time looking for and find, places on your land to stash wood that this far hadn't been exploited.

    You calculate your cord-years, where to pull from next, and which rows are backups to pick from should a winter be particularly hard.

    You find great joy or fulfilment from accomplishing a small task or learning a new skill as related to wooding.

    You hear other more novice burners talking as if they knew everything, particularly if they're wrong....and you remember those early days.

    You wonder why those same novices go get the biggest and best equipment, but they're one-chop-wonders.

    Its another kind of person to smile, and listen with interest, and leave it alone.
