I'm at 125' my town is like a bowl. 9 lakes and ponds, with 33% of the town wetlands, frozen solid now of course. The cold just sinks in and settles. -2 now, daytime high 5.
Current temp. We have a bunch of rivers around here. They aren't froze over fully yet. But when they do freeze over it get and Stays cold down there. It will be 40 below at our place and down by the river 250 ft lower elevation and 4 miles away it will be 55 below. When it's 50 below here its 65 below there.
Ours wasn't it was next to the lake, a restaurant now aptly named the icehouse, if buried deep would flood in spring. Think of it like a warehouse sized cooler. The sawdust kept it insulated and the blocks separated.
