I responded to an ad on CL on Wed. afternoon for free wood about 5 miles from my house. Looked like reasonable access. Thought to be Boxelder and Ash by the homeowner. No response by the time I got up on Thursday. OK, too hot to do wood anyway. That afternoon I get a response asking to let him know if I wanted it or not. He had someone else that wanted it. He had sent me a message I hadn't received. I said I would understand if he gave it to someone else, but here is my phone number so the internet doesn't screw it up. I didn't hear anything else Thursday or yesterday, so I figured he gave it to someone else. No problem as I had no burning desire to do wood in this weather. This morning about 10am I got a text asking if I wanted the wood. He told me that he needed it gone as construction was starting Monday where the wood is sitting. I figured it must be freshly cut for the construction. I went to the site and the first words out of his mouth were I hope you brought help. Don''t even ask me to help. OK. It was also quite apparent that it had been cut for some time. Ends were discolored and grass grown up around it. I brought home 2 loads of very large rounds and was done for the day. Probably 2 more loads to get. I texted him saying I was done for today. Hot and tired. Planned on being back at 8am to try to finish. He thought that sounded good. Here is where I need feedback. Does his inability to plan ahead and communicate with people he hopes will do him a favor make it my moral problem if I don't finish tomorrow since I "accepted" the job.
I just couldn't believe how he has fiddle farted around since Wednesday when the trees were probably cut months ago.
Sounds like what I normally go through on FBM. Sometimes like pulling teeth to get a reply. Ill send my number right away which might scare away some folks. Ill check out the score first before committing and ask as many questions before I go. Sounds like his needing it gone right away might be a ploy to get you back ASAP. I've gotten stuck a few times having to take it all even though I didn't want it all.
Internet makes people weirder and most don’t have good communication skills. If it’s crap wood I wouldn’t go back. I’ll ask people for pics and won’t get a response. 2 months later they are still trying to get pecan wood cleaned up and still not posting pics. Selling firewood is worse. Folks will ask questions for days and never buy. I’ll ask folks to text or call and they keep communicating through an app. I won’t use the app anymore because people on it are so wishy washy and non committal.
Maybe he's one of those people who procrastinate forever and don't move until you light a fire under his azz. I'd like to be a bird in a tree nearby when the construction guys show up and he has to move the stuff out of their way. If he can't get them to do it. Not to be mean, just to be a witness. Or. Just go get the wood because maybe his life sucks. Who knows.
Well,,,,,about three weeks ago I contacted a guy selling a set of atv tires. Good price, close to home. Two days later he replied he would be home on Sunday. I said fine, I’m available after 1.00. He said that’s fine. Asked for his address never heard back. Two weeks later he messaged me again saying he’d be home. I never responded, he can keep those tires, I’d rather pay full price than jump through hoops for someone that can’t type a message.
A lack of planning on your part, does not constitute an emergency on my part. EDIT.. I see me and Tiewire think alike.
I've had folks not behave while selling or buying. So I do keep my word, if I say I'll come get it, I'll do that. Not because I'm fixing their problems, but because I said so. Otherwise I'd be doing the same as what I don't like done to me. But that's me and my circumstances, which may not be applicable to someone else's life.
