So, I'm in the midst of a massive elm score.
Last week I saw some guys trimming back the trees along HWY 1 just south of Oakes ND. I stopped and asked them what they were doing and what was going to happen to all the wood. They said that the power lines right near the trees were going to be replaced and the everything along the highway need to be trimmed back or just cut down. They said they were leaving all the wood behind and that it was up to the homeowners what happens to the wood. The first 2 houses I knocked on doors for said that the wood was spoken for and the 3rd one, no one was home. So, I left a polite note on the door asking if I could have it. About 4 days later I get a phone call and the guy said to leave some behind for his camping trips, but that I could have the rest. Check out my pictures !!

My kids and I made 2 trips up there after work tonight. Going to make 2 more trips tomorrow evening too. I'll get a picture of the pile in the backyard when the sun comes up its dark now.
    More updates to come!!

Hell YES!! I CSS and burn tons of elm. I love it. Burns hot, clean and leaves a nice bed of coals. Take all you can get!

Don’t let the Elm haters get to you!

I am going to need a better splitter, that's for sure. My little table top 5 ton isn't going to cut it.

I live in an area packed with a variety of hardwoods and even I’d probably pounce on such an easy score as this. Close to the road, lift and load. Nice little adventure for your kids to tag along with you as well.

If you are not ready to buy a larger splitter, maybe you can rent one for a day. Get your processing area setup, schedule extra hands to be there, and have at it.

Awesome! Did the trimmers cut to the pieces shown in the pics or is that your work? Great stuff for burning. Sounds like your perseverance is paying off:yes:

Some were cut in pieces about 3 feet long. About 1/4 of it will need to be cut in half or maybe 3rds. But for the most of it is already bucked to size. Here is a picture of what we got yesterday. We made 2 more trips tonight, not shown. My sons pickup bed and our small trailer full of wood. It was dark when we quit tonight. 20210304_180241.jpg 20210304_180257.jpg 20210304_180315.jpg
There's probably still enough over there for 3 or 4 more trips. I have no idea where I'm going to keep all of this:picard:

Nice score for sure SD Steve ! Would it be worth it to split a bit up & drop it back off to the property owner? Might make a new friend. That'll heat ya a few times.

I say the same thing every time i bring more wood home, but i still do. You'll figure it out. As long as you can see grass there's a place to stack it! Go get the rest!

The propane torpedo must feel threatened, with all that firewood around.
