The Yellow Birch in pictures 0899 & 90 are the same topped of tree that will need to come down,0901 is another topped of Yellow Birch,0903 are two more rotting from the top down Yellow Birches, plenty of wood back here that needs my attention. The downed tree in picture 0908 is a Maple.

You must have only a few trees left up there and have 50 cord stacked. I admire your efforts as you seem to always be cutting!!!
Nearly everything here is birch, back in pa was a tree that people planted. Never really burned it much before, but its a great wood. Love the heat it cranks.
Plenty of trees are still up since I concentrate on the topped off or downed trees. Most of the wood I cut since fall was trail clearing White Pine. I'm sure I have 50 face cord but not real cord, I usually get between 24 -28 real cord by fall depending on the winter. My cutting for the spring has been down so I'll be busy getting my three to four cord early (not face) and then hopefully another three later on.
We'll see what January & February bring this year. We have around .75 of an inch of rain coming in on Tuesday, what's the salt city expecting?
We have some rain moving in Wed. so they say then the bottom drops out of the temperature and snow for the weekend. I would love to see 4 or 5 inches on the ground, muzzleloader season comes in Sat - Tues.
I know we are going to be in the mid to high 40's for a few days and get some rain. It is supposed to get cold late week though. I know we are stocked with enough wood, as are you!!! Bring on the cold
We'll be bringing in our first loads of some better wood on Monday. We'll finish burning the Cherry we had for our shoulder season wood this year and then it's Beech,Sugar Maple and some Yellow Birch. We'll save the Oak and the Ironwood for the coldest weather.
Sounds like a good plan. Wish I would have found this site when I lived in Macomb.....could have hung out in awe of your land! Happy New Year!
I think we bought the land I usually cut on in 2007 before the end of December, were U still in Macomb. This is up at the top of the hill not far from where I was working today, my plans are to finish it this spring. I'll either roll it down the big hill or haul it up the with a dray, lots of good wood.
I was in Macomb until 2013. I did not have the quality land/ trees you have there though. Oddly enough my place in Syracuse is full of mature hardwoods. Nice tree by the way!!!
Nothing wrong with mature hardwoods. I do realize that living in the foothills means more hills but having more flatland wood be nice.
The rhino was used in the area I worked today but once I get the forest floor cleaned up (still some downed chit underneath the snow) once it's clear the tractor can be used. I'll be back in that area again tomorrow just so I can shovel off some snow that's covering some of the downed stuff.....once we get the .50 - .75 inches of rain it will uncover it so I can get it out of there. There's a big dip on the right side when your going in so maybe I can see what's going on. There's a big Cherry that fell from my neighbor's property on our property and then on the corner marker where our line starts. I would like to get that but his backyard is a mess of old downed Pines.
