Dad has been at me for a while to get him a deal on a good chainsaw. Well I went to see my mate Andre who owns the local Husqvarna shop, last year he gave me a smoking deal on my 550XP during a promotion and I was hoping he might be able to go somewhere close with another one. Well it turns out there was a promotion about to start for the introduction of the 550XP MK 2, so I said I’ll be back when you get them in stock. Yesterday Dad and I went out to my uncles farm to clean up a tree that had come down in a storm earlier this week and I got dad on my not very old 550XP MK 1. I ran my 365 Special. Then my Stihl 066 and 088. It was a bit tricky getting the trunk cut and off the fence as the wires we’re under tension, only the barbed wire had broken, the bull wire was still intact. Just a fraction of the wood! On the way home we diverted in to town and picked up a brandy new 550XP MK 2. Dad got my slightly used / just ran in Mk 1 for $200 less than I payed for it. I also gave him a pair of chainsaw chaps Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That looks like a whole gtg's worth of wood between the two of you! Sounds like your dad's got the bug.
That’s great. Now you’ll have to let know how you like the newer model 550 compared to the older edition.
Yes Dave, Dad has a small stove out the back in the semi enclosed BBQ area. He burns it on the really cold nights to keep the dogs warm. Mum and Dad sit out there sometimes and drink wine by the fire. But I think he just wanted a good saw after all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thats awesome! Beautiful country view for sure... Love the windmill farms, amazing things they are.... Congrats on the new saw too!
That looks likes a really nice day leoht all around. I’m like Farmchuck and would love to know what you think of the Mk2. I love my 550xps and really curious if it was improved upon.
I will let you know when I have had the chance to put a few tanks of fuel trough the MK2, then I will run both saws back to back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No idea what kind of wood that is (besides firewood) but it doesn't look to me like there is going to be many "nice straight splits" in that one! So many big limbs! Agree with the above comments about the scenic cutting area!
Brad it is a Monterey pine they are native to California and widely grown in plantations down here. Not very good for firewood but if they fall over I will turn them in to it. brenndatomu the knotty bits just get pushed in to the burn pile. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cool looking gnarly tree! Some of the bigger cookies would make nice table tops. Really nice looking color and growth rings.
Great leoht and perhaps your dad really got the bug at the gtg. So happy to contribute to that. Right now many here would probably really welcome the weather you are having. It feels like Australia here but has the humidity of a jungle near the ocean.
G'day Dennis, The weather on Friday was the best we have had for weeks, it has been really wet and windy which is why the tree fell over. Friday was still cold but no wind or rain, I finnaly got to take my jacket of while working. Yep t-shirt working kind of weather.
If your not already you should try some Stihl chains on those 550’s. Pricy but significant upgrade in performance.
