Stupid move #1 putting a strap of steel across log strippers
Stupid move #2 putting it about 1/8" above wedge
Stupid move #3 getting finger in said gap
Was splitting wood for my Mom at the time and put valve in the detent to return wedge and as I went to get another piece of wood must have swung hand right over wedge as it went under strap and before I even realized it the end of my middle finger on my dominant hand was gone. IMG_0372.JPG
Lucky enough to get a few stiches in next finger also. This is probably the pic I should have used the first time. I hope all these pictures of everybody's accidents, mess-ups, ~~~~-ups whatever you want to call them makes someone a little safer.

Anyone ever heard, "The most dangerous tool is a dull one."

It true that tools are easier to use when properly sharpened, but somehow that seems wrong since I always sharpen and end up with cuts.

We got Wusthof knives for our wedding and after using them my MIL decided to get some Wusthof's too. This was after using all her 1/2 dull freebie knifes from corn seed companies for years and years. My wife saw her moms new knife block and said, "Be careful mom, those aren't dull like your old ones." The wife cut herself 2mins later chopping potatoes. Ironic yes, but at the same time teaches us it's only when we become comfortable with a dangerous tool that we hurt ourselves.

Gave me some great pills, oxy something or another. Believe it or not didn't hurt as bad as one would think. Only took pills the next day and when I would go to the Dr.. She liked to squeeze it and roll it around. It didn't hurt much but it was a little sensitive. Didn't like to be bumped or squeezed.

Sugar coating the truth about what we all do and work with does a big disservice to all. The pics may be hard to look at but they are real. They serve as a good wakeup for all of us.

No injuries yet from wood working yet but don't try to help rescue a trapped dog that is in pain. Last spring I almost lost my ring finger tip on my right hand due to a "dog bite". When I reached in to help him free his trapped leg he went for the hand I was trying to help him with. The doctor that stitched it back on was a bit surprised that I did not end up with an amputation by it becoming infected.

When I got to the ER, I just told them to trash the kitchen towel I had wrapped my hand in for the 10 minute drive. Yes it hurt a bit.

early 90's open up scalp to the bone on a shelf bracket( the cheap stamped out type) I was putting a shelf over a machine that I had just installed dropped screw driver behind machine bent down to get it when I straightened back up is when I caught bracket from middle above eye to just above ear in a downward curve. blood like a volcano eruption.some where in excess of 200 stitches.Drove 14 miles to clinic only time I didn't have to wait. Another time fumbled a sharp mower blade made a grab for it-wrong move ended up slapping it. sliced open from just below thumb joint across wrist -ya it squirts a pretty good distance - late on a Sunday night- that was a super glue event. Got nailed by an exploding grinding wheel-a section bounced off something else and left its mark - more stitches. Yes I was standing off to one side at turn on any & all these kind of things happen in a flash. Its amazing I am still around considering that I have a shop full of machines that can launch stuff at incredible speeds with uncanny accuracy at my physical presence or shorten appendages in the blink of an eye.
