I’ve had a lot of trees dropped at my house over the past few years and got to know the owner of the tree service fairly well.

He knows the wood I like and will drop 8 foot log lengths when he is working nearby. Usually I’ll get a text saying ‘load of birch coming later today’. Sometimes I just see a half dozen logs laying over by my stacks, like Firewood Santa stopped by.

He won’t take anything for it, but I let him park his equipment over by by barn (usually over the weekend) if he’s working in the area and is coming back the next week. As he told me, dropping a load of logs here when he’s in the area can save him a 15 mile round trip, so I’m saving him time and money.

The hard thing is that logs and debris are free to drop in Douglas and Casper around here. I'm trying to develop relationships with tree companies but I think they will need some compensation to drop trees here.

Sometimes depending on where they have to go to dump whatever trees they have processed they may find it more convenient to drop their load at your place.

I tried ChipDrop, really is a lottery I guess because it didn't provide a fruitful outcome. But I believe I've just set eyes on such drops where it's chipping and hog fuel mixed with rounds outside property I drive by. Goes to show its still worth checking out people who are getting trees cut down and talking to the cutters or asking the homeowner what they want to do with it.

It's more plentiful in my area though. Kind of hard to "sell" the wood when so many are cutting it down and it floods in the summer time market. Mostly because people are trying to get their trees down before they get to the storms that bring lots of rain and uproot them.
