That's what I'm thinking will work best and readily available.

Had some fun with the fiskars tonight. Split enough to fill another rack and have a little left over. I tried something I haven't tried before that I saw somewhere online. Worked awesome with this red oak. Wrapped a bungee around the round and split away. Really was impressed with how much time and bending over it saved, round stayed in place and with how easy the oak splits I was able to split the whole round in very little time.

Metal pallet racks happen to make great stringers for pallets. (Imaging that. :D). Keep your eye open for some of it. As business come and go there is often some pallet shelving to be had. I found a bunch of the vertical pieces that for some unknown reason were cut apart with the diagonal bracing removed. I took 20 pieces and wish I had taken more.

I have been interested in the bungee or tire splitting aids. Glad to hear you like how the bungee worked. I'll give it a try.

Nice, I use a tire for smaller logs, definitely gonna use bungees on the bigs! Thanks for the tip.

Got the rest of the splitting done today. Oak and locust for 2016-2017. Now I need to go get some more pallets to make some more racks.

Yea the bungee cord works except I always chopped through it. Now I use a tire except for the biggest rounds. But the tire works great for jamming several rounds in and splitting fast.
