This seems like mostly a mechanic thread but I'll take a stab at it. Was a mechanic for 10yrs,wasn't my calling. I'm 33 and have found what I love to do finally. I own a small landscape company that is part time this year and will be my sole income next year. Main focus is mowing and trees. Starting to learn climbing
That's great, nice looking lawns. Best of luck in the future. We have several members here that are great climbers, maybe they could give you some tips... Barcroftb Scotty Overkill blacksmith
It's great that you found your calling. I guess you could say mine found me. Seems I was always working on something so I just decided to make a living with it.
Dunmyer mowing llc it seems like every year I clean up tree messes that poorly trained Landscapers have created. I don’t want to be a killjoy but the correct way to learn treework is to work with a trained professional for a couple of years. Best of luck to you and congrats on becoming your own boss.
I'm happy for any climbing advice, I've felled hundreds of trees but 0 climbing yet, just bought the gear and got 1 lined up to use it on
The issue is it isn’t just climbing a tree. That’s the easy part. It’s the working aloft that’s the difficult part to pick up. Learning how to position yourself to run a saw aloft without slipping and injuring/killing yourself or someone else isn’t easy. And don’t even get me started on learning rigging. The only real piece of advice I can offer you is don’t rely on YooHoo-Toob to learn from. I see you’re in Indiana. While is cold and you’re not mowing, grab a job with a reputable tree work outfit for your off season. Mention you are eager to learn to climb. Show up to your interview ready to work. Guys like me love that chit. They’ll put you to work that day. You’ll get more in the time you spend learning tree work the right way than a 100 years of reading or 50 years of watching toob videos could ever teach. Just an old climbers two pennies.
Dunmyer mowing llc , read anything that Scotty Overkill or Barcroftb posts about climbing, they are both talented and well experienced climbers, that many of us here have had the privilege to watch work in person!
No pics but I've worked on everything we have today it seems like. Had a cylinder eye brake on a dozer, hyd. Leak on a track hoe, now I'm driving an hour and a half away because the headlight assm fell out of a dump truck. Job security
Tomorrow gotta install the driveline, a yoke seal, and repair the bed stop cable on the Mack. Then replace a water pump on a international 4200, repair the headlight assm on another mack, rebuild and install a cylinder on 2 dozers, then replace the complete ac system on a hoe. The day should go by fast. I'm not complaining I do like what I do for a living. For my neck of the woods I make good money and have great bosses and owner.
Complete ac system on the dozer. Water pump and air compressor on the truck. Then I have to replace the window in the little hoe. I just replaced it 2 weeks ago.
