    I'm not sure if it is just a local/regional thing, or if it is more widespread, but they say the color of the woolly worms forecast the severity of the upcoming winter. Well I've seen every color and combination under the rainbow this year...what the heck are they trying to tell us?!
    Maybe we'll know better after the Woollybear festival happens in Vermilion Ohio here in a few weeks...

    Over the last week or so, I've seen solid white ones, solid black ones, brownish black ones (black and brown hairs mixed evenly throughout) and the traditional black on both ends with the brown in the middle. (1/4th black, 1/2 brown, 1/4th black)

    Does more black mean a harsher winter, or more brown?

    I just looked them up on Wikipedia. Seems they can live as a caterpillar up to 14 years before becoming the short lived Isabella Tiger Moth. So folks, you may be seeing the same caterpillar year after year. Seems it would be hard to make a forecast from that!

    The reason you are seeing all different colors is because this winter we are going to have a little warm, little cold, little snow, lot of snow, little rain, little ice, some dry days, some frosty days, sunny days, cloudy days and just about whatever else the Good Lord brings......that's cause He made the woolly bear too.....:whistle:

    I've only seen a handful of woolly worms this year, but every single one has been solid black.
